Post Cruse Control...does it save gas?

Guess it doesn't really matter when you are getting 12 miles to the gallon, but..

When you are on the highway, do you think Cruise saves gas? I was driving along the other day and the question popped into my head, so figured i'd see what you guys though. I'd tend to think it would, but who knows. Lets here your opinions!

WHEN I TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH TO OHIO FROM VIRGINIA, I USUALLY SET THE CRUISE AT ABOUT 72 MPH AND I GET 16-17 MPG. WITHOUT THE CRUISE I'M NOT CLOSE TO THAT.---jim

if you're climbing hills or inclines etc.; you will use more gas with the c/c on. on flat highways, it probably helps. but if you're serious about gas mileage, keep an eye on your boost gauge. that's right, keep the eng. running with as high a vacuum reading as you can and you should get the best mileage possible.

Why is that Lightninrod? Just curious! Why keep high pressure?

I'm not really concerned with MPG, i just thought it was a good question to ask.

CC is notorious on older vehicles for causing the vehicle to surge back/forth while cruising, which caused decreased economy.

On new vehicles it's not as apparent, and you should save some on long trips on mainly flat str8 aways.

He stated keeping your pressure high because you will not be into boost cruising so TRY not to go into boost unless needed when travelling. When boost goes up increased fuel is called upon to supply the demand from the electronics.

Dude, ****. Quit startin' sh$t. PLEASE, get lost. I say we make a public vote to ridicule your *** off of here. I noticed that you didn't use caps in that post.

I still don't know how at 19 and a week minus 9 months = 18 years and 3 months of age that you were able to buy a Saleen w/ only 3 months of credit history? Ummm, yeah, okay. And not to mention that you got 2 tickets in the Saleen which you got from the dealer you worked at. What happened, they fire you for too many violations, and now you've had to resort to selling used cars for a living? I won't be surprised if we hear about you living under some overpass in a few years.

Yep, I'm a jackass. You caught me.

BTW, I do own a nightclub and you got that from reading a prior post. I also am a computer engineer while specializing in networking.

Back to the above mentioned topic, I noticed better mpg out of my '92 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD from staying on the gas at a steady state myself. It was, however, a 4 cylinder powered by a turbo, so it needed a lil extra oomph in order to accelerate w/out trying to go into boost too much, hence the lowered economy w/ the cc on.

I doubt this would be much of a problem in in the "L's", though.

YEs it does help. The computer knows what to expect from itself. It averages the fuel usage better. In he Vette it has a digital instant MPG reading and at 100 it is 18 by the foot and 20-21 on cruise control. BTW the vette will engage cruise at 140 the L stops cruise at 125.

wouldn't have a car or truck without cruise control--it saves me gas for sure, it also saves me tickets, without it my speed tends to increase due to fat body pushing little foot down harder on gas--of course most of my driving is on the flats, very few hills.

You know, this brings up an argument. My '95 Vette showed about 1 or 2 less on the digital mpg reading compared to when I just used the gas myself. I've always learned and read that the computer will taylor itself to your driving. Maybe mine was a fluke?

How much did you lose w/ the A/C on? I sometimes would lose up to 2, but around 1 average.

Mine is a 98' they are totally different cars. I did not see any change in the computer with a/c on or off. Even though I knew it uses more power. Computers do change certain parameters to fit driving style. When you select cruise it just manages fuel better than your foot. I always gain MPG with CC on. I really monitor the instant mpg on cross country launches I wave run on fumes before a time or two. I would slow to 60-65 or so and kick in CC turn off a/c.
