New Lightning/SVT news.
The new Motor Trend rag/mag has some new SVT info. The next SVT vehicle will be an AWD Fusion using the new direct inject twin turbo V6. The next gen Lightning is on indefinate hold as is the next gen F150. Heavy hints about an SVT version of the new F100 truck using the same twin turbo motor. Too many 2008 F150's sitting unsold so they pushed the release of the new version until 2010.

Their target for the SVT Fusion is the Audi S4. That is a lofty goal. Hopefully the bean counters will let them go for it. The twin turbo is reportedly going to be over 400hp. In the new Lincoln it's 350hp and they wanted more for the SVT. I think it's a great addition. Also sinking big money into dual clutch transmissions which the Fusion will get. We have a VW R32 with the dual clutch and it is by far the best trans I have driven. That includes the BMW SMG, Ferrari 430 F1, Porsche Carrera, and several other fun cars.

With the low end torque it seems better suited for straight line acceleration than high speed corner carving

If SVT had intented for the cobra's to be drag racers they would of kept the stock GT brakes and solid rear axle. Also look at the specs of the Gen 1 lightnings .93g's on the skid pad.Sure would like to see how that transfers to drag racing.I think SVT has geared more to the 1/4 mile because it is cheaper to do[drag race].i equate drag racing to checkers and road racers to chess.Pretty easy to stab the trhottle and go straight.NOW do that turn at the end of the 1/4 at 100+ with a car alond side you!STan

SVT made their vehicles to be a bit versatile.. Its all about personal preferance on what the owner of that SVT product intends to do with what they own..

An SVT vehicle should be able to go fast, and stop fast, and turn fast. Improving one of these, without negatively affecting the others, is completely consistent with the SVT vision.

Well, they dropped the ball on the Lightning brakes then. These vehicles are not made for the the race track period. They are nicely rounded road vehicles, with extra performance for those of us that appeals to. Where we take it from there is up to us. They never would have put that heavy assed motor in the GT-500, if they wanted it to be a track car. The Roushe will eat it alive on a road course. Having said that, I prefer the GT-500.
