Question maf problem??

ok my 99L has been running great, last night it out of nowhere it sputtered and died. When i tried to start it it would start fine but would sputter to it died, i would try to give it gas to keep it going but it would not help. So i disconnected my maf sensor and it would run. luckily i was close enough to home to drive it home without the sensor (not a fun drive).
So my question is, is the MAf bad? or could it be something else? I checked air box and there was nothing plugging it. Seems like an obvious solution but i dont want to run out and buy a new sensor if thats not it.
thanks!!

Hi Nathan, you know I've had the same problem on my 2000L. It's very intermitent though. I've experienced it in the last year or so. The truck has always started (might take two or three times), but once it's running it kicks ***. I would be interested in other owners comments on this problem.

You might try cleaning the maf. It is a quick procedure. Remove the maf and spray the elemtnt inside with maf cleaner. I believe CRL is a good brand of cleaner.

I have an 80mm MAF (99-00) sitting on the shelf doing nothing that needs to go. Send me a PM if interested.

actually I took apart my airbox and there was a small piece of leaf or something over the sensor. Don't know how it got past the air filter. But it works great now.
