I have a question regarding when to change the oil on my lightning? I have an 04 with 15000 miles. Most people recommend 3000-4000 miles between changes, but what if it takes a year to put 3000 miles. I've been using mobil1 5-20 and Motorcraft filter since the 3rd oil change. Should i wait till i reach the 3000 miles although it takes a year? I usually change it ever 6months sometimes a little longer. Thanks guys.

 

i change the oil in all my cars and trucks every spring regardless of mileage.some may not go 100 miles but i change it any way.may be crazy but i figure condensation is a good reason for me.

 

It depends on how you get those 3000 miles. Oil does not degrade just sitting, and degrades slowly when the engine is running warm. It's those cold starts that degrade your oil. If your truck sits all week, then you drive it for a half hour on the weekend, then you can change it once a year, but if your driving two miles a day, then that oil may be shot is six months.

My 01L is not my daily driver and I try and get some drive time on it every week or two. Some years I only put 500 or so miles on it, so I just change my oil every year in fall and fuel filter every other year.

I change antifreeze every 3 years. Changed my trans fluid and filter at about 4k when I installed a B & M trans pan and then again at about 8k when I had a PI converter installed. I dount if I will change it again before 20k.
