What Tires is Everyone Runnin at the Dragstrip?
I'm gettting ready to run my new 01 next week and I need to get some tires to run at the track. I saw in the MM+FF mag. article that there was one truck in there (Bob Kowalski) that had some 15" slick on what was said to ne custom wheels, and it mentioned that the tires and rims belonged to Jim D'Amore. I alredy have some 15" slicks, buti cant find any 15" rims, and it looks like they would hit the rear brake calipers anyway. So does everybody else run 16" tires? and what brand and size. I was thinking about the BFGoodrich Street slicks in a 28 X 10.5 or something, but i'd really love to run the 28X10.5X15 MT i already have.

I personally run a 28 x 12.5 x 15 MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREET. If you want a contact name and number for 15 inch wheels, just drop me a line and I could share the information. Just be ready to shave material off your calipers, and also remove the dust shields.
If that sounds too scary, simply run a 26 x 11.5 x 16 ET STREET like most others do here. Dont waste money burning up stock rubber. IMO

There's no way you will ever get as good 60' with F1s as you will with MT ET STREETS 26X 11.5 R 16. I run em on 7" ford spare tire rims with no tubes and no screws. 18 psi. Work great. At least one person has told me that when he switched to 10" rims his traction was worse and he went back to the 7" rims. I launch at 1000-1200 rpm and get very consistant 60's of 195 which is good for my track but no where near what others have posted at their tracks. Even so we all agree they are the best for what is offered for our trucks unless you have enough bucks to get custom made 15" rims that will clear your calipers. Then your tire choice goes way up with 15" rims.

I have used 255/50/16 BFG drag radials. I usually pull 1.8 to low 1.9 60's. I drive them to the the track and do not have to worry if I get caught in some rain.... Something I thought interesting was the last time at the track I lined up next to the twin of my 01 silver L. He had ET streets and me the DR's.. I out 60 footed him....go figure...

I've used BFG drag radials on my son's blown Chevelle. They hook suprisingly well. Just don't do killer burnouts, they slow down. We are using a 15" rim on his car, but you will have to go to the 315/17's as hdmlniun mentioned in his post.
I will probably go with this set-up in the future myself.
You can actually drive them on the street, as long as it isn't too wet. There is only about 3/32" tread so they wear out fast.
