Who took the Red out?

When we used to read a thread it would turn Red to let us know that we had read it. That was nice. It allowed us to cruise the site faster and keep up to date without reinventing the wheel. What happened???

so far I have seen several posts on the subject and no one knows why. is there anyone out there that knows? It sure takes some of the fun out of the web site when you can't mark your reads!
