Keypad Install?

Keypad Install?
I did a search but did not find anything specific, only references to it being done. I have been told that my '01 L is prewired for a keypad, and all I have to do is find a keypad from another red F150 and plug it in. Is this true or BS? Anyone have advice on the install? How do you set the code without the plastic credit card Ford normally gives you? Thanks!

try svtlightnings.org, then go to the "links to how-tos" section. I was able to install the keypad in my '00, so I presume the wiring is in your '01 as well. Basically uses the same door handle from a F150 Lariat or Expy, but I did have to modify mine slightly. Seems there was a counterweight added above the handle mechanism that interfered with the window run. Couple of minutes with a die grinder, and all was well.
As far as the keypad "master code", it seems like the article I read mentioned the code being on a label attached to the CPU, above the passenger side kick panel. I've got a pretty good relationship with a local Ford tech who hooked my truck up to the laptop and retrieved the code for me.
Good luck!

Yes, it's a simple install. I did it on our 01 test truck. All 99-01 Lightnings come with the right keyless module. But the 99s don't come with the harness in the truck, the 00 and 01s do. The door handles come from Ford colored, so just order the keypad and the right colored handle and that's all you need. As for the code, if you look up under your dash, to the left of the steering column, up a bit higher, you'll see the keyless module, and the 5 digit code sticker right on it. The only thing that I had to do extra, was the harness was like an inch short or reaching the plug in the door, so I just duct taped it to the outer door skin.

Captain remove the lock rod and loosen the window track ( per the how to ) and the left nut on the handle gets lots easier. The window track is bolted at the bottom of the door.
But you are right except for cutting the counterweights off and getting the left nut off and on this is a 10 minute mod.
