yes it's real, do a search for all of the info, there must have been about a dozen threads about this in the past 5 days. try keywords "recall 01B81"
By the way it is in effect now UNTIL September 30th 2002 if I'm not mistaken reguardless of mileage.

I stopped in at a dealership today to inquire about how soon the IC recall will begin. Ford has not sent recall notices yet. Service writer took my VIN, entered it in OASIS, and the recall campaign # came up as an open recall for my L. He said as long as OASIS shows an open campaign for a vehicle, recall work can be done. He ordered the repair kit while I was there and should have it in a week. It looks like we don't have to wait for the recall letters!
