I agree about the 5%. Last I heard, reg. cab sales were still around 15%. No squirrels here either pal.

Dont like the extended cab, nor do I think they are all that functionable. If you want a backseat get an Explorer. An extended cab L would look crappy.

Although i wouldn't like the extended cab on the Lightning, I believe it would attract another group of customers who might wan't to use the L as a work truck. Think about it...more space in the back for carrying stuff and more power to tow it. I'm just kinda scared they might screw up the body for '03/'04.

the lightning for a work truck....

jesus, with the payload capacity, they'd have to make numerous trips to the depot just to get enough cement to put in some fence posts. I agree with a previous post...if you want a back seat , buy an explorer...better yet a super cab, that's why they made them. If you want the towing and payload capacity, go superduty. The idea of an extended cab lightning is just plane rediculous. Think of how these are gonna match up at the tracks with extended cabs( i know, i know, not built to be dragsters plo. ford), but think how gay it will be.......These vehicles weren't made to me work vehicles or family vehicles, just like cobra's weren't built to be taxis..wow, that's a scary thought!!!!

I had a full load of drywall in mine, maybe a bit over the limit, but it sure looked cool sitting low. I should have got picture of it then.

the '99's are still selling for prices very much near original MSRP........it's amazing!!!
I always thought Lightning's were holding there values as well as you mentioned until I started looking for one recently. Where I live atleast, the 99's are going for around $22,500 to $23,500, and the 00's for around $25,000 to $26,000. Personally, I would consider $6,500 to $7,500 pretty high depreciation for one year in a truck. That's OVER 20% in one year. In comparison, I paid $19,200 for my truck in '98, and got an offer the other day for $14,500 three years later, which would be 24% over three years. Are my numbers off somewhere or are L's depreciating faster than regular F-150's??

I don't know if you need to worry about ext cab "L"s. My understanding is that the Halrey will be blown very shortly. If this truck is avail in ext cab or crew cab, there is your sport truck with rear seat. An ext cab L would be redundant.

Thoughts?

dumb

adding the s/c to the lightning really made the truck stand out. If they are gonna ad it to the hd f150's, might as well dump the lightnings. Heres a though, alternate production for 3 year period. 2003-5 harleys, 2006-8 lightnings......just a thought. why make vehicles so similar. might as well drop a 4.6 in a focus and call it a stallion!!!

Talking

I use my L as a work truck. It does just fine. Since it is a regular cab, and therfore shorter, it is easier to get around in and it will fit in my short gargage. In addition, the shorter the truck the lighter it will be. At 4,600 dry these things are heavy as is, no need to lengthen the barge.

With regard to producing the L in limited numbers. The current production numbers are indeed limited (apx. 1999 4,000; 2000 4,000; 2001 7,000). About 5,000 Porches are made each year, thats not too many and they have made them every year for a long time. By keeping the production going year after year you can continue to improve the new ones and upgade the old ones. Everyone wins!

Keep the L short as a true sport truck. For those that want an extended cab with supercharger let them call it a Harley( ie big, heavy & SLOW, I think they call them HOGS, oink oink).

Thats my nickles worth.
