Chip removal

I'm gonna pull my chip. Can anyone give me a step-by-step procedure?

I did a check on the faq, but the two links under this url showed up as broken...

Unhook battery, pull chip, reconnect battery. Short and sweet but is all you need to do.

That much, I knew. Do you have to pull that gold-headed bolt from the plug behind the battery on the firewall? Then do you get the deal out from under the dash?

You only need to do that if you want to remove the entire computer. But yes, that bolt holds the pin connector onto the computer. p.s. the computer will slide out from inside the truck....sorry.

Ahh, so you can pull the chip out from the computer without yanking the whole thing...

Sweet, thanks Frank!

Thumbs up

You only have to pull the computer the first time to clean the terminals.

Lightbulb

If multiple pieces of duct tape is used to hold chip in place it maybe difficult to remove them without removing the entire PCM.

Unhappy

I was able to pull my heavily taped chip in less than a minute, two weeks ago. it decided to crap out at 70mph, on a 24 mile bridge with no shoulders. after the traffic came to a standstill, and i was in no danger of being rearended. i was able to cut the duct tape on one side and disconnect the chip and let it "hang". i re-started the truck, as the police car (with the gigantic front rubber bumpers for pushing) was making his way toward me.
