Traction in the rain in L's
How on earth do you guys drive in the rain. On my V-6 5speed 3.55 rear end 4by2 crewcab short bed. I can leave it in second gear at about 2500rpm's and goose it a little and it gets WAY sideways or wheels hops awfully bad. I know it depends on the streets I'm on too here in Lexington Ky. Tates Creek is the worse, I've even done this in 3rd gear every now and then. You guys MUST have a feather foot.

1) Don't. Drive your cheaper and significantly slower 1991 Toyota Previa
2) Light foot. I fishtailed my Lightning doing 30 when bringing it home from the dealer. Or just do a Temple of Doom thing but put the box between the gas pedal and the floor. Ow! Ow!
3) BFG makes a tire of the same size that I've heard gives better grip. From tirerack.com, I think they're $80 more expensive that the factory Goodyears.
4) I've read that people who drive their Lightnings in the snow weigh the rears by a couple hundred extra pounds.
Ahhh, but go easy on the pedal (especially around the corners)and you should be ok.

Drive the lightning like it has a 60 hp escort engine and it handles the rain just fine.... Just limit yourself to 1/4 inch of pedal at a time.
Mine is a daily driver with 27000 miles and the tires are fine in the rain. Since it will get sideways real easy on dry roads it just makes sense that wet roads require some patience

I couldn't understand anyone having any sort of complaint about it's handling in the rain....out of all the vehicles I have owned...the Lightning is by far the best in the rain. I have praised those F1's left and right as being amazing in the wet stuff!!!
I mean you can't drive like a complete moron....but as long as you exude the smallest bit of common sense, the truck handles amazingly!
The snow...well that's another story.

Well, as luck would have it, and because I washed, clayed, and waxed the Lightning yesterday right after bringing it home, it rained like hell here all afternoon. Got stuck at hockey practice when it started. This was the first time I had driven it in the rain, and thought it did really good for the amount of HP they have. Everyone was right, limit the right foot, and you'll do fine. There is a time to have fun, but in the rain isn't it. I didn't get any wheel psin at all, braking was better than I expected. The only thing I really noticed was the wide tires plowing through the standing water. It will take a little time to get used to having wide tires again.
Traction wise, I think the L is every bit as good as my XLT 4x4 I traded in on it. I think the 4x4 spun much easier.

had an episode last weekend
took my buddy out car shopping last sunday in the rain and had a few scaries. Going uphill on the on ramp to I95.....coundn't go friggen 10 feet without the *** end kicking out and i was cautions about application on the ol pedal. When I finally pulled out, the tires spun for about 20 yards and i didn't even run over 2500 rpms. But you know what.......my dad's 2000 350 superduty does the same friggen thing!!! First time I drove it in the rain I was like what the hell??? I think alot of it has to do with the pavement survaces where you live....maybe alot more oil residue on main rodes and highways compared to back roads?? The other day I was carrying a couple bags each of mortar mix, black top patch and sand in the back.....what a difference!!! Getting my rubbermaid containers ready to fill for snow season.
