Is it possible without any problems or is a chip needed?

I wouldnt put a Pulley on a truck with no chip!!! You need more fuel to go with the extra boost!!!!!!

My understanding is that factory programming runs richer than chipped...

Example: It's safer to run Nitrous with stock program than with a performance program.

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong here.

I would have to agree, but you may want to change your plugs first.

Im not sure exactly why, But JL sends a note with his Pulley about needing a chip. Im pretty sure its based on fuel or the air fuel mixture. You may want to keep asking!!!! I know mine ran like a$$ when I sent the chip for a reburn and had the pulley on!!!!

For 3lbs, I would get a chip.

No doubt Call the man, if your wanting a JL pulley just ask him. He will tell you straight up if you need a chip. If you just wanted to try the pulley thing with no chip reset your boost actuator to the stock setting and put the pulley on then adjust you boost act back up if things are running good. You should be able to lower the boost a pound to a pound and a half just to start with. Listen for detonation and see how it feels.

I've got a track event coming up next weekend and I presently have my chip sent back to IBM (@ LIGHTNINROD) for a reburn to the latest and greatest. It should beback mid next week, I was just wondering if I should just hold off on puttting my JL 3lb pulley on the truck UNTIL I get it back.

Using the boost actuator to cut boost, hadn't thought of that.

That might work, but it just seems wrong....

If its an 01, they run leaner from the factory than the 99 and 2000 trucks. If so, run a chip.

No, you don't need a chip. I live down here in hot Florida, and I ran my 2000L unchipped with a JL pulley, 90mm MAF, ram air, and cat back with NO detonation...even in 98* weather (including a dyno run). The diablo chip did make a huge difference, though, although it's not needed, IMHO.

Paul:

The JL sheet I faxed to you says " needs a chip reburn", doesn't it?

Yeah, but I didn't think you "JL guys" were that smart anyway!lol

I just figure for everyday driving it should be fine, hell, I'm gonna wait anyway now! No use to chance it and it only take 10-15 minutes to put it on... right?

Signed,
Chipped by IBM - Pentium VI 3.0GHz

Wait a minute! I thought you wanted to run at the trac/event with just the pulley, now you're sayin' "everyday driving". Normal, non-WOT drivin' should be fine without the chip reburn(IMHO) I know, just drive your Geo Metro until you get 'fixed'.

Bein' sarcastic and I'm tryin' to get you into the 12s.......that's not right(kevin Meany, forgive me.)
