Spark Plug Torque Spec

According to the Lightning shop manual supplement I have, plugs are supposed to be torqued to 11 ft/lbs. I saw a couple of posts saying 16, perhaps a little too tight. I don't know, what do the tuners say?

I have the shop manual for the 2001 model year F150's. My book says 13ft/lbs. What manual do you have? I wonder if Ford changed torque specs? Maybe you could post a picture.

And, since you won't be able to get a torque wrench on some of them--NGK(I think) says "finger-tight(snug) plus 1/16th of a turn". Remember, there are only 4-5 threads holding the plugs in our aluminum head. Has anyone run a thread-chaser into the s/plug openings?

Shot of Spec Page Sucked

Here's where I got the 11 ft/lbs figure. When I ordered this manual they didn't have a 2K.

THUNDERBOLT

Thought a Ford Thunderbolt was a 64 Fairlane with a 427, dual 4 barrels and 425 HP.

Maybe, just maybe, with all the plugs being blown out they decided to tighten them up a couple of lbs. since 1999. LOL

Spark Plug manufacturers recommend "finger tight, plus an additional 1/16 turn" for taper seat, aluminum head application. That's what I have always done. I've never used a torque wrench on plugs, you never know when they are going to fail .

On the supplement book........did you get it with the set of manuals or did you find it separate from the main set?

My set didn't come with one, and the lady I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about when I asked back when I got them for my 99.

RedThunder

I got it seperate from the manuals. I'll look through my receipts and see if I can find where I got it.
