Tire Recomendation for 20s
I was lookin at the 20" 01 replicas and noticed they were 20x9, unfortuantly not 20x9.5. Anyway I was intrested in tires. I was thinking 295 is too big, so maybe 285 would be good? so i went to tirerack.com and searched for 285/45/20 and came up with Pirelli Scorpion Zero and Yokohama AVS S/T. are thos good? do they fit well? what other tires do u suggest?
thanks
thanks

DJY1,
I guess you know that you're costing me some big money. LOL
I hope you don't mind me copying your style, next thing will have to be the lowering kit. Mine is only 2" lower in the rear and the new wheels and tires don't fill up the wheel wells like yours.
Your truck is an inspiration to a lot of us on this board. Smmmoooootttttthhhhhh ride!
Did you have to cut the frame in the rear?
Thanks,
Tim

J15BIG,
285/45/20's should work, I see no reason why they wouldn't and should fill up the wheel wells a little more than the 40's. Not sure which would be the best tire though. Research the stats at tire rack. If I'm not mistaken, and I'm no expert, the 45 series tires have a taller sidewall than the 40's. Right Guys?
I was looking for 295/45's for mine but the closest I could get was 40's. They're OK but the truck is crying to be slammed now. Thanks to JDY for posting those pics of his awesome ride.

I wouldn't worry about the 295/40ZR20 being to wide for your rims. The Neeper T-Rex is listed as a 20"X8.5" wheel and it is plenty wide for the Dunlop SP9000 tires I am using. Very good gripping tire. I have put 18K miles on them already and should get another 15-20K before I burn them up.

I have the 295/45/20 Toyo Proxies S/T's on my truck now on my 01 replica 20's. I had a set of 99-00 20" replica's with Goodyear Eagle HP Ultras that I sold.
Pro's and Con's..
Toyos ride better than Goodyears (more sidewall), Toyo's have better wet traction. Goodyears ride pretty good, but you do feel more of the road because of the shorter sidewall.
Goodyears are softer tires, last 20-25 K 209.00 each
Toyo's are harder tires, last 40-45 K 258.00 each
Stock gear ratio is 3.73
Goodyear Tires, 3.60 gear ratio
Toyo Tires, 3.48 gear ratio
So you lose a little more performance with the taller Toyo tires.
Goodyears seemed to have better traction at the track and on the road than the Toyo's. But the Goodyears seem to hydroplane in wet weather, the Toyo's cut the rain much better. Just be carefull driving fast with the Goodyears in the rain.
I was going to install 4.10 gears(with 295/45/20 tires, 3.80 final ratio) to get me close to the stock 3.73 gear ratio. I decided to just run my 18's at the track with some Nitto Drag Radial's on the rear and live with a little less performance on the street when the 20's are on my truck.
The Goodyears look wider on the rim then the Toyo's.
My personal opinion, I'm going back to the 295/40/20 Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra tire as soon as my Toyo's are worn.
Also depends on where you live, If your roads are Ruff (potholes, etc), you may want to go with the 45 series to help protect your rims, If you have smooth roads like where I live in the South, go with the 40 series.
