Thumbs up

Ted,

Great news! I remember how nice it was to get my front end done to get rid of that clunk. Glad you've got good rubber on there now too.

Man, I can't wait for some nice weather so I can get my beastie back to being as shiney as yours! I so wish I had a garage I could park in.

IKO,

Generally they weld the washer to the frame in the center point of the movement marks.

There are two washers (one on each side) for the bolt that holds the a-arm to the frame. The slot is elongated, so the bolt moves sometimes and makes a clunk. If I remember right though, this is already fixed on 2001's? (the slot isn't elongated or it has the toothed washer or something).

Its not a big deal to fix... The other "clunk" is the steering stops! Get them lubbed.

Hounddog,

Now that it is welded can you still change you alignment spec's? Can the bolt still rotate on it's center point? If not, your done. Unless you break the weld to move the bolt, and then reweld it. Also the star washers will move in time. It may not be for along time, but it will. I wouldn't weld on the control arm if it was my vehicle. Not at that point.
just my two cents

Herb! I didn't know you were still around! Do you sill sell your washers?

Other owners: If Herb still sells his washers, I'd get those over welding. I've got his washers in my truck.

I never went away. I've be working on an R1 and my Rc 51. Just sold the Yamaha. Now Sal is helping me with my truck. Winter does that to me. Thats when I'm into making the bikes right for summer. All those that want the washers now how to get ahold of me. Its still the best thing out there for this fix. I'm going down to my Ford dealership so that I can take a look at the 02's to see if that dumb slot is still there. If anyone has a 02 please let us know if they made this noise.

Hounddog,

Could you post a pic? I'm just wondering how he did it so that the blot can still rotate. Put a lot into the design of the washers. I just don't see how it could be done with a weld. Will I've seen how some have welded the stock bolt to the arm, but they don't rotate on axis.

Herb
