Cool I Would Like To See A Denso Pic

Here's an example I took tonight of an NGK TR5. This is daily driving not WOT. I would like to see the tip and down in the metal cylinder that surrounds the porcelain. I took this pic at night with a light shining down into it but the best results would be with daylight shining down into it.

Question

new or broken in? i just installed denso's to see how they hold up to the squeeze compared to the splits. the initial "feel" is like falling off a cliff. i wouldn't be suprised if a new set of splits would dyno more hp than a new set of denso's

Wow that looks hot. Most of the plugs I have seen coming out of these motors have a light brown/redish look. Not pure white.

Cool

MRBBQMAN,

The Denso site recommends IT16 for the L. The IT20 is the next colder plug.

It's good to hear some input from somebody that's tried other plugs besides the stock ones. The Splitfire is the most responsive plug out there and after you've ran them it is hard to find other plugs that measure up. The NGK TR6 is a close second but I lost 1 1/2 mph trap speed at the track. The TR5 feels very much like the Splits and as you can see it burns a good color. I need to do some WOT blast and take a reading. I also need to make some runs at the track (it's closed until Feb.) for a final verdict.

I'm surprised at how much rattling the Split's can take. When I had my winter gas problem I rattled the TR5 about 4 times, Champion 401 (no audible rattle but lost #5 within a day and a half (maybe 7 or 8 WOT blast)), and rattled the Split's about 7 or 8 times. The Split's were rattled so many times because I was running a couple of test programs to see where the fix in the program needed to be made.

The cold weather program that I had burned on side 1 of my flip chip solved the problem. The Split's have no rattle at WOT all the way into O/D and the TR5's don't either. It was 39 degrees yesterday when I was running the TR5's. I like them so far but the jury is still out until I go to the track. The throttle response is almost identical to the Split's and I'm not suppose to lose MPH. We'll see about the latter.

After testing all of these plugs I am interested in seeing how the Denso's burn compared to all the others. You already let me know the throttle response is not as good as some. Thanks.

BTW, I'm running a chip, 90mm MAF with filter, 4# pulley, T/B, 170 stat, electric fan, Cobra R water pump and crankcase breather.

The Champion 401 (RS12YC) is the only plug I ever lost and it gave no warning signs (no pinging) like the NGK or Split so BEWARE!!

Are you sure about the .030" gap? Sal told me .040" for 4+lbs of boost and .042 or .045" for less boost. I think yours are gapped too close.............

Cool

Surely somebody running Denso's has a camera. Start snapping those pics.

Talking

Chuck,

I don't think it is a lack of cameras that is keeping prople from snapping pics. I just don't think everyone likes changing plugs as much as you do.

Marvin,

How goes it buddy? I just want them to pull one plug. #1 is so easy I could train a pet monkey to do it.
