Lightbulb For Those Who Have Blown Their L Engine

Well, lets see if this works. Please only post if you blew up your L engine. I'm talking blown here, not just replaced because it was making funny noises. I'm talking scrap iron here. Please answer this in order.

1. Were you running a chip? if yes Whose.

2. Were you running boost pulleys? If yes, what pound increase.

3. What plugs were you running and what was the gap.

4. What broke, ie, rod, valve, crank, etc.

5. Did it happen on the street or on the strip?

6. what oct gas were you running?

7. Were you at high rpm when it let go?

8. What year is your truck & how many miles were on it?

No commentary is necessary unless you feel led to do so. If you did not blow please don't post here. This thread is not intended to flame anyone. Nothing but the facts please. Attack or defend somewhere else. If we get enough responses maybe Steve can corolate them here.
Thanks,
noelvm

1. yes JLs Diablo chip

2. yes JLs 3# pulley

3. Stock plugs

4. rod broke will not know where till monday

5. on the highway at about 80mph

6. 92 oct chevron

7. about 3500rpm

8. 2001 with 7500 miles on it

Also I can't realy drive the truck that hard this time of the year you ever try to hook up that much power when the temp is about 10 below. Even dry roads feel icy when you stomp on it.

Sorry to re-post, (and please don't erase this), but I just wanted to say, that JL has done a great service to me and my L by taking it into the 12's for the first time in it's life, and safely I might add. So, when I posted about my motor, it is in NO way a slam on him. What happened to it was my fault, and not a "tuner error." (And this isn't about brand loyality), b/c I can care less who's parts are on my truck.

Thank you..

-Marcus

p.s. I think tranny issues should also be added to this list. I know of one So Cal guy who has had a few tranny issues with his 01.

I hate to post this because it's a little off topic, but while I was running a superchip programmed by JY I lost 3 transmissions.

When he went to dalibo(sp) he couldn't reprogram my chip for a 90mm maf anymore so I went to JDM and have lost 0 transmissions.

This is not to say that in fact it was JL fault, I just find it funny that I had all these transmission problems and every post on this thread that's blown engines also ran a JL chip, funny?

Lets keep this one on topic....

If you havent had drivetrain problems ( blown motor or transmission ) DONT post on this thread.

DONT post to tear or defend any particular tuner.

JUST the FACTS from the horses mouths...

No room here for speculation or potentially false accusations.

Just like the intercooler and clunk problems the issue here is to find out what is happening.

Keep in mind that a member with very few posts mayor may not be legit.

I will trim any offtopic posts.
Thanks in advance
Doug

1/31/02 I have trimmed 10 or more off topic posts so far.
Put responses that arent reporting a motor or trans problem on your truck in this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...924#post492924

5) Hiway Big Bend TX. Was getting ready to cruise at 150mph
6) 102 Unleaded
7) 4400 RPM

Was caused because of the chip being burned for DRAG Racing and not for what I do. Tuner still owes me,just have to decide what and when.Stan

I hope FORD reads this

First of all I would like to make a comment. My truck never acted right when I first bought her, but couldn't prove it. I had the plugs changed with the intercooler at 13,750 miles with NO mods and 2 of the plug tips were missing. I am currently fighting with my dealership for a new motor. Meanwhile my truck has been sitting behind there shop for 2 1/2 months.

Here is what I had on my truck when she blew;

1. None (I have had been running a chip from JL and JDM in the PCM though)
2. None (I had been using a 3#)
3. NGKs gapped at .038
4. Nothing broke. Lost compression and burned valves is what
the tech said.
5. On the street.
6. Texaco 93
7. 3,000 rpms
8. '00 17,350miles

I had it towed home after she started getting to hot for me to drive it any further.
Additional mods I did have on my truck was a filter kit and crankcase breather.
I pulled the chip out and pulley off the Sunday before to get a bigger pulley and reburned chip.
