Reimburesment for intercooler?

My father has a 99 L. We haven't taken it in for the intercooler leak yet. If I was to put an intake from a 2001 on his truck could we get some type of reimbursement from Ford? If so how much?

Hello,

I wouldn't do the work yourself.

There are other procedures they do while they are in there that you might not know about (or have the ability to do).

One such thing I know of is that they have to re-flash your computer with the correct calibration for the intercooler change.

They also check the emission system, the plugs, the supercharger, etc.

Bottom line. . .you want the dealer to do it.

The good part is that you will get a noticable power increase, and you know that if something is messed up or effected in some way by the swap, that you can have the dealer make it right.

Good luck!

Ford will not pay to install parts that are not OEM for the truck. The only time a recall will reimburse is if you paid to have the work done before the recall was issued. That means you paid to have the same exact work done.

BTW, give me a call, I have some info for you on the motor stuff.

This is the first i have heard of a computer reflash for intercooler swap... If thats the case then if they updated the cux1 to a cux2 then my chip wouldnt work... Im pretty damn sure they didnt flash my computer...

Thumbs up

Mine was reflashed when the intercooler was changed.

They told me that sometimes they have to, sometimes they don't, it depends on the vehicles calibration code.

My box # is CUX1.

Cal. numbers before the swap: XL3F-905172-AGB
Cal. numbers after the swap: XL3F-12A650-AGC

That's what the sticker the dealer put under my hood says.

I do know that they told me they needed to do it because after the swap my truck kept popping trouble codes. After they reflashed it, all was well.

I don't know if every truck requires a reflash or only the early '99s like mine. Perhaps the tuner-types can shed some light?

Later,

NXcobra... I did the same.. I asked the guy - Since this is a recall these mods shouldnt mean anything right ? He said as long as the recalled part is still on there thats allthey cared about...

Maybe they just reflashed the 99's as WrongdayJ said

my 4-way chip worked fine, on my 99 after the blower and intercooler swap. maybe after the tech saw all the red and blue braided lines attached to the tb area, he knew "flashing" would be futile,or something

More smoke being blown? They do not have to reflash the EEC and 12A 650 is just the base part number for that devise.
