I have a 2001 Lightning and I removed two cats from the stock which leaves just two cats. I replaced those with two high flow cats so I can still pass emissions. Then I have a bassani cat back with an x pipe, mufflers, and 3 inch exhaust. Bassani definately rules the exhaust sound and performance for ford. Hehe, the C-5 next to me on the way home from work did not expect to hear this kind of explosion from a truck!

All catback setups include a muffler(s). So what is your question?

The x pipe is the key ingredient to make the L sound like a monster big block V-8, instead of two four bangers fighting for recognition. Or, helps with balancing back pressure and equalizing the flow of the exhaust pulses.
Either way is good
