Reason I shouldn't buy a Lightning?

I've needed a truck for years but have never bought one because I really never liked any. I recently drove a 99' lightning at my Fiance's dad's dealership and loved it. I think I am going to get a new one ordered this summer ( I have to wait till we get married to get the A plan price).

I have a couple questions:

Trailer: I want to pull and enclosed 14' Motorcycle trailer with it a few times a year. Will I have problems? Is the lightning a good choice for pulling or will I have to keep borrowing trucks to pull one. His salesmen mechanics all say yes it will pull it. I would like to hear from someone that has actually done it.

Insurance: I have been told a few different things about insurance. One person said that the insurance companies have a higher insurance on it due to its blower. Some have said its the same as an F250. What's the deal?

Thanks.

i've never towed anything before, nor will i ever, but the insurance is usually the same as a regular f-150. Just depends on what company you go to.

I had my CBR in the back of mine, with a 18 foot car trailer and a 88 MontoCarlo on it and towed with no problems. The L would be great for what you want....

My Insurance was the same as a new F150.....

I have pulled 5 Jap bikes down to florida for bike week twice a year every year for the past 2 years . over 1300 miles each way.

I have 14ft V- nosed enclosed trailer.. i pull 4 bikes in the trailer and 1 in the bed. no problems and u can cruise to over 100 easily...the torque makes it easy to get to speed quickly on the highway. But i do get crappy gas mileage. I will probably buy a new s/crew next summer so i can keep the miles off the L.

if u get a new L it may be better to pull due to the gears but i'm not sure.

Towing

The L is the best tow vehicle I have ever driven. I tow a 22' MasterCraft boat and have a 12' motorcycle trailer that I tow around. The L is a very stable tow vehicle. You will be surprised how many vehicles you actually CAN pass while towing. I have blown many minds towing my boat with it. I have also owned many trucks in my day and can honestly say that my Lightning is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. It does it all
(on pavement)!.........The answer is: A++ Tow vehicle.

If you had no hands and no feet, you shouldn't buy a Lightning.

During the summer I tow my boat about 30 miles one way to the lake every weekend. I've never had any problems. I've even blown away one v-6 mustang from a stoplight while towing the boat (loads of torque). As far as insurance, mine is the same as a normal f-150.

The L has a higher towing capacity than a standard F-150 if I remember correctly. For the insurance question, I think it will depend on where you live, how old you are and what insurance company you have. I have Nationwide and the rate is not too bad.

The towing capacity is only 5000 pounds from what I've read. That isn't much. A Ranger is rated at the same amount. We all know there is enough torque to pull 3 times that no problem. I think Ford sets the number lower because of the lowered suspension.

The only reason I see that you shouldn't buy an L would be if you were the CEO of Daimler-Chrysler, in that case you woul be driving the RT-10 Ram, hehehe

There is NO reason not to buy an L! Unless you don't like excitement, the thrill of the ride, and being the center of attention.

THanks for all the replies and info. Looks like I will be ordering one this summer. The black ones are faster right?
