Replacing the PCM

I know that if you were to install another PCM into our trucks that it has to be programmed for the PATS system. What is that exactly and what is actually input into the PCM (ie VIN number or odometer readings)? The reason I ask is, if and when the L goes back into the dealer for warranty work, can I just swap out PCM's? I changed the PCM in my '98 Ram for a Mopar Performance PCM and had to have the dealer input VIN numbers and odometer readings, so I hope that with the L's it is a plug and play type of deal.

So does anybody know...Sal...JL???

Thanks,
Doug

unless you have a NGS tool or WDS your sol buddy. The odometer is stored in the HEC or better known as the instrument cluster. One needs to be programmed to the other to work . I would not try this without experience unless you like to pay tow bills.
