I had my factory tips electroplated, but

but they are already stained with road tar and other discolorations, even Mother's won't remove. This plating cost me 100.00 dollars American. Also the plating is peeling off, where I had them tack welded to the tailpipes...If I had it to do over, I would purchace two 3.5" chromed tips like you can get from your local muffler shoppe (That are factory chromed). These larger tipps would fill in the cut out mo-betta anyway's

I think it would be cheaper to buy some polished stainless steel tips rather than chroming your stock ones. Try this link

Mine were pretty cruddy looking. 1 tube Simichrome + 30 minutes elbow grease = sparkling tips. I don't know how long they'll stay this way, but they are pretty shiny now.

'00BlackLightning,

The stainless tips tipps listed in the link are really trik. I'm going order two of the 35107 tips.

Will the 35107/ 4" fit through the exhaust opening?

Ya, the 4.0" tips will compliment,

The size of the cut-out. In my mind these tips will fit and look excellent. I'll take pictures and post them when I do this, but it will be a while.

I 'think' the stock tips are stainless, but ford coats them with ceramic.

Why do i think they are stainless? cus my coating is gone and I polished them up nice with stainless cleaner, and lots of work.

ANother problem...can't chrome stainless....at least thats what all teh shops I have talked with have said, whcih could explain why your chrome is flaking off...

Hmmmmm!?

Thank all for the enlightenment. I'll call the electroplating shop and axe them what they noticed and acknowledged about the about the tips, when the ceramic was blasted off. Man, it makes little since to me why FORD would ceramic coat the S.S. tipps anyway?? Oh well kinda the story of my life....Trial and error.

Why can't you chrome stainless???

You can chrome plastic (electroless nickel); so why can't you chrome a conductor such as 'stainless' steel? fwiw - you can 'chrome' just about anything.

You should be able to get Semi-chrome at any motorcycle shop.
