fog light replacement

Both of my fog lights are cracked. One of them is severely cracked in several places making it easily visible when standing in the front of the truck. So I was actually thinking of replacing them. Is it suggested to replace them with the same ford type. Or is there another (better) brand to use? Hopefully something that is more durable, accommodating for higher wattage bulbs, and looks good as a replacement.

All suggestions welcomed.

Your dealer shoud replace them. That is standard practice.
Warranty item.

Lightbulb

I use the Hella lamps that Summit sells for $36 or so a pair.
(The ones for the 87-93 Mustang GT)

The wiring connector that comes on them MAY be diffrent than the one on your L, but simply put your wires on the new assembly if that's the case. The wires are connected to the light bulb the same way.

I've gone through about THREE sets myself now in the year that I've had this truck.

Later,

Actually I went to two different dealers and I was told that they look like rock damage (star like pattern) and that they would have to charge me to fix it. Maybe I will ask around for a good dealership in Austin (Im new here) and hopefully get them to replace it. In the meantime I will look for alternatives.

Thanks

On mine you could tell it was not rocks because the cracks were on the inside of the lens. I had them replaced at 9,000 miles.

I haven't been using mine for this very reason. I figure it must be due to the differences in internal heat and outside temp. I'm trying to locate some 9145s with ~35W bulbs, even though they will be less effective. I figure less heat will prolong their life. If I can't find any bulbs, I'll be replacing the lights with some aftermarket driving lamps.

I wonder if the cracking is being accelerated by an environmental stress crack agent. I assume the lenses are polycarbonate. If so, then brake fluid, gasoline, acetone, strong bases, and many other organic fluids would GREATLY accelerate their tendency to crack.

esche,
I bought my '01 L at Covert in Austin. One of mine cracked about a week after I bought it. Same story. They wanted to take a digital photo and send it to the factory for evaluation. It wasn't the heat because I hadn't even turned them on. Now the other is starting to crack too. They have a problem with the fog light lens and won't admit it. BS
