How do 295/40/20 ride?

Some of my buddy's were talking about the 20's that I want to get. All of them said that the ride would be bad. Because of the thickness of the 295/40/20 tire. I was thinking of the BFG g-Force T/A KDW or Dunlop SP Sport 9000's. Does anyone know how the ride is on the size and brand of tires? I have to admit that I know nothing about automotive things. So I am very gullable in this sort of thing. So if you can help me out that would be great.

Thanks,
Wheeler

I have the dunlops on my truck and I couldn't tell the difference from the F1's to those. If anything the truck handles better now with the skinnier tires. Your shocks are what is most important for the ride quality.

The aspect ratio (40) is only marginally thinner than the stock 45 so you won't notice alot. You will notice steering inputs will be executed a bit crisper since there is less sidewall to flex, and what is there is a bit stiffer (less sidewall available before the bead is exposed).

One word of caution however. A thinner sidewall also means there's less (sidewall) compression area available to absorb the road impacts when you hit a bump or pothole...so keep that in mind so you don't damage a wheel. This is normally what causes people to say you will get a rougher ride--less sidewall flex which acts like an extra shock.

If you want to determine exactly how much sidewall difference there is for any tire on the market, goto http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/size.htm Which will walk you thru it. Hope this helps.

The ride is stiffer than stock but tolerable. Not too much difference but if I had to do it over again I would buy a 45 series tire. And they would fill up the wheel opening a little more.

Look at my sig.

Hope this helps.

I have 295-40-20 Goodyear HPZR tires they are ok, great handling. I like profile and the looks and stance it gives my L. with the lowering kit. Stance is everything when my L. is parked it looks fast!!! I guess the taller the tire the ride will be smoother because, there will be more cushion.

DJY1 Did you C-notch your L? Or do those 20" rims help in some way?

I have the dunlops

After about 30 miles you forget the 20s are even there. The only exception is when you go to the track and try to launch with them and all you do is spin tires(no flex). They become VERY expensive burnouts.
