The Lightning is gone...
Today would have been the 1 year anniversary of owning my L, but I got rid of it last night. I bought a 2002 F350 4x4 CC Diesel. I loved the L and miss it already, but I really need a 4x4 (I live in the sticks) and should have bought on instead of the L a year ago. Luckily I got the L on the x-plan cause I only got $22,000 on the trade ($700 less than I owe, but ya gotta cut your losses sometimes!). Got the new truck on the X also, so that saved me about $5000 off of sticker. I'll still hang out here, but my new home will likely be ford-diesel.com. If I make it to WFC this year someone will have to take me for a ride in their L!!! The girlfriend always told me it was a "toy" truck and she loves trucks that are jacked up, but last night at the dealership she was almost in tears when I said "I'll take it..." Guess the new truck will be called the "Gutless Wonder", cause man is it slow! LOL

Hey Roger,
Sorry to hear about your change in trucks but its understood. There's a couple of guys my way that run big rigs like yours that have been tweaked with Gale Banks bolt ons. Both run set up as 4WD, fully loaded, one with a big tool chest, and both are consistently in the mid to low 14's!! They take alot of guys by surprise! Good Luck.

All of my buddies have "big" trucks and they always told me that they would run me over in my little toys (the Cobra and the L), and I always said "You can't run over what you can't catch!" now I guess that won't work anymore. I had a lot of good times in the Lightning though. I know all of the local cops/deputys/troops and had a bet with one of the deputys a long time ago. He always told me he could beat me in my Cobra. We lined up on Main street in our "small town" (I made him get in the wrong lane!) and before we could take off a car came over the hill behind us and he was afraid it would be the Sheriff so we didn't go. About 6 months ago I was in the L and met up with him again at about 2AM and we lined 'em up. I blew his doors off (we both knew I would in the L and the Cobra but we needed an excuse) and then let him pass. The speed limit is 25 and Main St. is .5 miles long. We blew past a bar at well over 60 and the people outside didn't know what to think about a cop racing a pickup truck!! It was pretty fun!

Uhhhh - gutless?? I don't think of a Powerstroke diesel as "gutless". Maybe your redline is a couple of grand lower than ours, but I'd bet you could snap a boat out of water MUCH faster than us.
I think the phrase "short legged" as more appropriate. The L is more of a triathlete or sprinter. The Powerstroke is a 'sumo wrestler'.
We haul ***. You now haul anything you want.
