Why some people wait to mod until their warranty is up?

why you run the risk of paying now OR later after your warranty is up.

I don't have AOL -sorry I don't get out much online
But what about the people who mod AND then find out they their dealer voided their warranty over a simple thing. Why not mod from begging.I just don't understand why some wait that's all.

What I'm trying to say is most dealers void your warranty anyways so why wait?

There are mod friendly dealers out there. Up here in MI where I live, the mechanic that works on my truck is the same age as me (27) and loves to build fast cars. First thing he does is clear all fault codes, then he just happens to overlook the mods. Pretty sweet, if you ask me.

Most dealers probably do that becase they are allowed to get away with it. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the burden of proof is on the dealer (/manufacturer) to prove the any mods are responsible for damage before denying a specific claim.

From the SEMA site: "Unless the dealer can prove that the part that failed did so as a direct result of a part you installed, he is obligated to fix it under warranty. " (end excerpt)

If you overboost, and destroy your motor, yes, it's on you. But they can't simply void your *entire* warranty because you have a chip, as much as a lot of dealers would like you to believe.

Here's a good resource if you've been given grief by a dealer over mods: http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=8124

One final note - you'd be amazed at how fast a dealer will change their tune when you turn up the heat on them.

Thanks for the great info.I was just asking because alot of people wait to mod and I just could not understand why they wait.It seems like more will go wrong the longer you have a car so why wait.

jt2- what do you mean when you say*entire* warranty.

I 'm not worried about a mod friendly dealer near me.I'm worried about it whenever I go out of town.
