Cool

HI!... That's weird? My factory water pump on my truck and my crate engine 5.4 look exactly like the COBRA R water pump but it has the propeller off of the other one. Both of mine are aluminum and don't have that large "NIPPLE" sticking out of it with the threads. Mine only has a "NIPPLE" that's about 1/4 long. What gives? Here's a pic of my old one that I replaced, bad bearing.

Hey Neal,

That "nipple" is where the factory fan mounts to. It screws right on the thread, thats why if we switch to the Cobra R pump we must also do electric fans at the same time. Not vice-versa

Cool

HI!... SOAP : Yes I know what the "NIPPLE" is used for. Why is RTKILLA's so long though? If you look at my pic closely you will see that I have the threads too. It's just that my "NIPPLE" or "snout" is MUCH shorter. Is the LIGHTNING's water pump made out of cast iron or something? RTKILLA's old water pump looks that way unless it's been painted prior to the the pics? I just can't see how everyone say's the COBRA R water pump is 4 lbs lighter than the stock one. My stock water pump does'nt even weigh 4lbs! Just curious?

HI!... It must just be the LIGHTNING's then that got the cast iron water pumps then? My "98" 5.4 crate engine and my F-150's "99" 5.4 both have a aluminum water pump with very short "SNOUTS". WEIRD?

Hey Neal, you are correct, they are different. The Lightning pump is cast iron and hs a longer fan shaft. The regular truck pump is aluminum and has a short fan shaft. You're not going nuts .

HI!... LIGHTNINGTUNER : Thanks! I kept staring at these two ink blots I have and thought I kept seeing two sheep mowing the lawn on a skatboard. lol! Good I'm not going nuts. I think I have to lay off the purple KOOL-AID!lol!

So in other words switching over to a COBRA R water pump on my truck would'nt be worth while then? If so, would'nt it be cheaper for the LIGHTNING guys just to buy a regular 5.4 water pump? Just curious? Thanks for the help.

Are there any special tools needed to install the water pump?

Cool

This is just a guess but probably a good one. The N/A motor doesn't have all the idler pulleys and the bottom cage pulley sticking out on the front of the motor so the fan can be closer to the engine. The long shaft is needed to clear all the supercharger rig.

Nope.....it is probably one of the easiest mods to do. Honestly.
