Cool I Calculated the potential Top Speed

Here's what I assumed:

Tire diameter - 28.1"
Rear Axle Ratio - 3.73:1
4th gear ratio - 0.71:1
Redline - 5700rpm

180.0009!

Who knows what kinda horsepower would be required to pull redline with that gearing.

BTW - For you guys with the 3.55s you could go 189.127724091mph

Man can you think our trucks can handle 180mph being a 5000lb brick??

LOL..I think mirrors and other peices would be flying off at 180+. Theoretically, 180 is doable, until you figure the aerodynamics of a brick!!!!

Power requirements go up with the square of speed. Using 380 hp and 140 mph as a baseline - I get 628 hp to go 180 mph.

If you modify the front air dam, turn in the mirrors, duct tape a few areas, and lift the rear of the hood, you'll gain 10+ mph.

With some suspension mods, and minor engine work, 175 mph+ can be done. I wouldn't do it even if I had a cage rated for that speed, though. A few will, not me.

Using This I get 2185hp needed to pull a 180mph trap speed But that thing is kinda off. It tells me I need 475 rwhp to turn the times I have.....and I know I am well shy of that.

I used 4800# as the weight of the truck.

Top Speedy Dyno Run

Made one pass and the guy helping out that day knew for sure the Truck wouldnt hit 175.... needless to say when it maxed that they were all shocked. Sadly, this was my final run of 2 so I havent been back to try yet again. Werid thing though was the truck hit 175 and the computer shut off but when we went back through the run, the computer said top speed was 158...so who knows till Friday rolls around for one more crack at it.

I know Ruslow is flirting with those numbers. I believe he has exceeded the 170mph barrier. Top speed events, not 1/4mi.

It is do able.Areo tricks and cutting down on internal heat and HP loses is were you gain.IE mirror come in,wipers off, tape up unwanted edges and corners, raise the hood [back]BUT keep the rubber seal on and cut the center section out 10 inches[there is a high psi area on either side of centerline of hood but a LOWER psi area in the center.Keep as much air going over the vehicle. At 157 the ft of my truck is level but standing still it has almost a 2 inch rake. Also align the truck at the height that you run that way you are not scrubbing speed from to much toe in or lack control because of not enough.Plus many other things.Stan

Forgot to add.In the May event that is held outside of Vegas,My navigator and myseld are reguistered for the 145 mph group. So I HAVE to AVERAGE that speed over the entire course,90 miles, from a standing start.Stan

...and go thru the narrows at a very high speed...

[hold your breath now]
Narrows...
[you can breathe again]

Mark said he drove it at 90 and thought it was just as they described in the course notes.

Talking FUN!!!

Last yr when I was in the 140 class and running it by myself I knew that I needed to slow down but then I came to the narrows and just could not.Would of not had as much fun at 120 as I did at 130.OH well thats racing because of that I averaged 141 not even close enough for a 4 place.Stan

170+

For what it is worth....(same as what I am charging you...nothing).
I had my "99" Dyno'd yesterday and it hit 172 top speed and pulled 395.6 HP to the rear wheels at temps of 91-93 degrees.
Keep in mind...that is with 0 wind resistance.
