Thumbs down Oh Crap, what if I have a Harley motor in my L?!

Hey Guys:

As we know, they are putting detuned supercharged 5.4s in Harley trucks this year.

As some of us know, my truck seems to be the slowest Lightning around. Do you think it is possible that Ford is putting Harley Motors in the Ls? That's about the amount of horsepower I am missing.

Does anyone know what's different about the Harley and Lightning motors to make less power?

Does anyone know how I could tell if I had a Harley motor instead?

Thanks

Steve

Grab a tape measure!

The only difference is the lower blower pulley.

My stock pulley is 7 3/4 inches across. Any smaller and you will be running less boost.

Visably the differences that I saw were the blower pulley size, looked like even the crank pulley as well. Some Lightning's have SVT or EATON stamped into the blower. The Harley has nothing. At least the one that I saw. Airbox on Harley has their logo and such. Ours has SVT, etc on it. Other than that, I can't think of anything else that's visable different with the engines.

Think the hp differences were the pulley(s), exhaust, and ICU.

Some are just faster. If you lined 10 l's up and had a computer launch them at the same time one or two of them would just be faster... The fastest ones would most likely be the red ones with a fresh coat of cherry wax

The differences are:
S/C pulley is larger, Different calibration, airbox opening and inner fender opening is smaller. Only the 01 up Lightnings have the larger opnening. 02 H/D doesn't get it. Exhaust is longer and more restrictive.

also, the front lower grille opening is smaller, hence letting less air into the intercooler and stuff. also if your in a state that requires front tags, the HD has the plates placed infront of the grille , where the L's have the plates on the bumper part above the grille opening which would also block more air on the HD's. Ford compensated a little by making the gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the upper grille suround bigger. very noticible when ya have a 00 HD parked next to a 02 HD.

The pulley would be the only thing different on LXguy1's truck though. He doesn't have a HD computer (he has ABU2), he doesn't have a HD exhaust, and he doesn't have a HD air box(his has the same label as mine and looks the same).

litnfast: LXguy1's truck is RED!!

kutter752: I agree totaly

If it's a HD engine it'll have straight drag pipes, a suicide clutch and a jockey shift. It could be a knucklehead, Panhead, or Shovelhead. It may have some apehangers hiding somewhere also. J/K LOL
