Gas mileage comparison
I know this will probably will not get me nominated for the Nobel Prize in research, but I recently did an experiment on gas mileage....Have been using Motorcraft syn/blend 5/20 oil and was ready to switch to Amsoil 5/30.....have read all the hype about Ford recommending the 5/20 because of mileage, so......just before changing oil, I took a 300 mile trip....got 16.8 mpg. Then changed to the Amsoil and drove 270 miles under same conditions (weather same, no wind, similar roads, same gas from same station, 65-70 mph highway, etc...as identical as I could make it)...Most important, both trips were made WITHOUT getting into the boost (AAARRRGHHH...that's tough to do!)....result was 17.4 mpg!!
Enough with the research...now it's time to get back into the blower! BTW only mod is K&N panel.

Everyone that asks about my truck always ask about gas mileage, my typical response is that I do not know because I have not checked and that is not why I bought the truck. But I can guarantee that I will never, ever come close to getting 17mpg with this truck. I can't believe that you got 17mpg twice, that is impressive to me.

AMSOIL IS AWESOME
I use the same in my L wouldn't use anything else..

I usually get about 17 to 19 on a long trip with the cruise control and staying out of the boost.
But on the boost I barely get 13!!!!! But it sure is fun!!!!

WOW.... I thought I was doing good with my 11mpg.. ONCE on a trip I got a tad over 12 and was excited!
I can't even begin to fathom how you stayed out of boost for 600 miles.. I really have to work hard to be able to stay out of boost on my 1.9 mile trip to work everyday.... well to be honest I only succeed at that goal every once in a while.

Unbeliveably, on my trip from Ohio to Virginia to visit Mike T. last
Friday my mileage was all over the place.
The first 1/2 tank from North Canton to Charleston W.V. I got
17 mpg. Then between Charleston and Mikes, I got 16 mpg.
Coming home in the rain, I averaged 12 mpg. Go figure...
Same speed on cruise, running around 75 mph and the boost
gauge staying at 12 on the vacum side.

I keep complete fuel useage records(they use to be an expence item). This past two weeks I haven't been to the track and have only been into the boost 3 or 4 times and travelled 1,336.5 miles. I used 89.9 gals of either Texaco or Amoco 93 and therefore, got 14.8665 mpg .
Masterloggie does even better with his PSP 4-way chip and big Nittos on long trips.
Btw, Johnie..............I really have to work hard to be able to stay out of boost on my 1.9 mile trip to work everyday.... What was that about seatbelts on the way to work............... Stay safe---and come on down when you can.

I just checked my mileage on the way back from WFC. On the way over I got 14.5 at a 70-75 cruise. I had a 2lb pulley, longtubes, chip, filter & screwed up TPS on my billet T/B. JDM put my stock T/B back on; 6lb pulley and a new flip chip. I got 18.7 mpg @ 75-80 cruise. I even had two places where there was stopped traffic on I-70 due to it narrowing to a single lane. I was at 400 rwhp before the changes at WFC and I can't wait to see where I am now. The truck feels so much stronger; even though I had the chip on the "mild" side, it isn't an economy tune.

Note: these arent WOT blast but more like half throttle or so...
Wow some of you guys are getting awesome mileage! I remember reading a long time ago that not only did chips help make more power but better gas mileage too.. I never realized how much better until now!
Dan what kind of mileage did you get when your truck was stock?
