Ayup ...
Joe, I am justa newbie to the strip and I am learning
to launch with all the NEW horsepower. My truck feels
like a whole new animal. Got great pointers from a
veteran Funny Car and Bike National Champion last
weekend. I can share ... They might help someone else
here too.
First --- Always drive AROUND the water pit if you are on street tiresx.
Corrollary -- Don't run behind ricers cause they drag
all the water on the way to the line <grin>
Second --- Do a small warm up burn ... nothing radical ... just
smoke 'em a little.
Third --- Brake and then release the brake and do little chirps
until you feel the tires "hook" -- This takes 3-4 little
"quickie" starts ... When you feel the tires hook on
one of these advance to the pre-stage and stage it.
This is where I am having a small problem.... When you launch
the best 60' times come from 850 - 1100 RPM lightly braked and
then roll into the "mash" phase. If done right (Like this fella did
with my truck!) you don't spin at all ... It is a razor thin difference
and hard to master methinks.
This fella was from Paintsville and has a '53 Ford Lightning (at
least that's what's on the tailgate of this beautiful purple truck!)
His name is Adie, and he is running 11.3's with his setup. If he is
back to Clay City Friday night I will get some pictures. Neat Truck!
So that's where I am at ... trying to learn to "hook" better and
get my 60's down. Plus it's so damn HOT here that there won't
be many peeps running what they would normally.
Saturday I am gonna go "cone" racing <grin!> That
should be a hoot in my 5,000 # Lead Sled !!!
And thanks to everyone on here that has offered advice
and encouragement ... Just remember, we may have
disagreements, but we are all still FAMILY. <Remember
fighting with your sister?>
Cliff
EDIT: DAMN SPELLING CHECKERS !!!

There was a guy here last year that had really low 1/8th mile times. Turns out that he was running on a shorter than 1/8th mile track. I just like to compare apples to apples. No flaming or anything here.
