Value of 2000 L

How much do you think a 2000 Black L w/ 35k miles would be worth? Exterior paint in good condition with some scratches on passenger side but I think I could buff those out. Inside bed scratches badly but no rust visible. I would get a bed liners anyways. This would be a purchase from a Ford dealership.

I'm thinking around 20k to 25k. Is that what I should expect? Kelly's Blue Book saies 32k for a truck like this. They are pretty figgin off counting the dealership just had a new L sitting out front for 32k.

I can't say exactly but given the mileage and the paint condition I'd be leaning more towards the 20 then the 25. In fact I'd say 20 would be about right. Be sure to check the intercooler level and the front tire wear. See if it clunks making sharp turns in a parking lot. Also try to find out if it got the new intercooler. Check for a chip by looking at the computer. Look for rubber in the rear wheel wells. That's a sign it's been raced.

It sounds like someone got rid of a truck they've been beating on - and they got rid of it 1K miles before the warranty ran out. I wouldn't pay more than $20K for it, I don't even know if I'd pay that much. I wouldn't expect more than $24K for mine and it's well-kept with 18K miles...

hrmmm... then you think trading in a F-150 XLT extended cab w/ 24,400 miles on would be a good trade? It is in great condtion, spray in bedliner, snugtop, aftermarket CD player. Check out my gallery for pics of my truck.

I'm gonna go over and look at it in a few minutes, just waiting for traffic to die down a little. Also gonna go look at the white one. The white one looks to be in awesome condition, tinted windows. I think it is a 2001 since it has the new rims. I don't know the mileage on it but the exterior paint was in great condition.

How do I find out if it has a new intercooler?

anything else I should check on it?

Thanks for the help!

Don't purchase a used L when you can get an 02' for msrp or less and a low interest rate if your credit is good. No warranty sux for something you are paying ~20K for.

How do I find a new L for under MSRP?

Does someone have an explanation of all the plans? Like the X-plan, etc. I've forgotten what they all mean.

Intel486,
They have two SVT dealers here in Maine, I know it is a ways from you, but you can't beat the weather here in the summer time. Anyway the last time I was at the dealer they were asking $29,995.00 for all of there 02's. When I bought my 00 back in Sept. of 00 I got it for almost $3,000.00 under MSRP. I guess it all depends on the area that you live, I have heard about other states that sell them less than MSRP and some states that sell them for a lot more. It all depends on if you feel like taking a short road trip to go and pick up your brand new Lightning.

Hmmm sounds like a road trip!

How can I find out about these places? I don't want to just wander around the country lookin for places.

Did you get it from Wiscasset Ford?? That is where I got my 99 XLT 4x4 that I traded in on my Lightning. Best car purchase I ever had. I didn't set foot in the dealership until I went to pick it up when it came in. I ordered it exactly like I wanted. And the price was several thousand under MSRP also.

Just FYI....I went to Carmax the other day to see what they would give me, and they said 21,500 for my 99 with 19k on the clock. I don't know if that helps you out or not

No I bought mine at Claire Ford Lincoln Mercury in Saco. Claire and Wiscasset are the two SVT dealers here in Maine.

Intel 486,
What I did was call 1-800-fordsvt and asked them for the phone numbers for SVT dealers in my area. Then I started calling. Once I got a price from one, I played one against the other until I ended up with the lowest price out of about 10 dealers. Then I drove to the dealer and signed the papers. I paid $27,700 for a new 2000 L. I think you can also get a list of SVT dealers on Ford's web site. Hope this helps.
Tom
