Thumbs down 3M Hand Glaze

I am far from impressed with the stuff. After hearing all the raving about it from fellow L owners with black trucks. It left a haze on the paint that I could not rub out no matter how many times I went over the paint. Kinda like a geasy film that was very noticebale.

Needless to say a few coats of my trusty Zaino and the truck looked great again.

I have done my fair share of waxing but is there some sort of weird application/removal you need to do when using this stuff??

Joe, what are you using to apply it? Maybe your applicator it too rough? I've used that stuff for years, and never had a problem with it, that's what most paint and detail shops use for final polishing. It contains no wax or silicone, so you shouldn't have any kind of greasy film. But you can't use it over wax. Did you wash the truck with Dawn to remove all wax first?

How dare you !!!! Take Sal's advice and make sure you're not putting it over old wax. Then just do small sections at a time and work the glaze into the paint until it starts to haze. Buff it out with a nice, soft towel for spectacular results A 3M detail cloth ( the little yellow towel ) is also excellent for final polishing. It takes any haze off of the paint. Give it one more shot and try to do it when it gets cooler out. Waxing in 90 degree heat isn't good bro.

I just used a soft terry cloth rag. Then used another soft terry cloth rag to buff it off. Comes out looking like glass.

Unhappy Hmmmmm......

The 3M Handglaze bottle I have says not to apply in direct sun light and DO NOT LET DRY. Big warning says it will stain the paint. It always worked great for me, just never lasts very long at all.

I've been converted to Zaino though. Everything seems to work well if you put the work into it.

Who knows

Well maybe that was the problem........I applied it over old wax. I had put a coat of Zaino on a few weeks earlier.

Question

Could it be that Soap forgot to use . . .um. . .soap first?

Hmm. There's a strange irony in that.

Happens all the time, though. 3M glaze is a wonderful product, but used incorrectly- any product will give less than spectacular results.

Joe-
Try it again, but make sure the truck is cool to the touch, and wash it with Dawn first. I'm sure you'll like the results.

I have been using Zaino on my black truck for a coupler of years and really like it. I just bought some 3m hand glaze #5990 and was wondering if I can use it under the Zaino or would this be alittle over kill? I seen the local body shops use the 3m with great results. Here is what I was planning. Wash with dawn, clay bar, 3m, Zaino. Any thoughts ?

First of all I think you have the wrong hand glaze. The 3M number is 39007.

Soap -

You've figured it out; you have a problem with compatibility. Some polymers and petroleum products are kinda like oil and water.
