I have beat plenty, and lost to plenty. Pick your Vette Races WISELY!!

 

Racing a vette is like racing a Lightning, You never know what you're up against untill it's to late

 

I have raced 3 c5's..one on the street and one zo6.

At the strip i have had several c5's refuse to race the L,pointing out that i had dot slicks.
So i offer to swap on my f1's and guess what,they still will not race.
I am sure a modded zo6 will show me its taillights one day but until then..the look on there face is kind of like this when they see L tails.Pic one :o

 

I have raced 1 C5 at the strip and it was not even close and raced 2 Z06 vettes and beat both of them by 2 tenths in the 1/4

 

C4s and C5s were no problem on the street. I beat probably 2 or three of each. This isn't because they were not faster but because the drivers would underestimate the Lighting and it was over before they got serious.

I have found that most "regular" vette drivers don't seem to be enthusiasts and simply drive a vette because it's a vette. They think that it is the fastest sports car known to man and they themselves are the best drivers. No offense to any vette owners here.

The Z06 is a whole nother can of worms. Not only are these things wicked fast their drivers seem to fall into the enthusiast spectrum of things and they know how to drive. I have been whupped 7 ways from Sunday by a Z06.

I have won many drag races at the strip versus several different model Vettes, but as IBFast said, a modded Z06 or ZR1, or just about any heavily tweaked Vette (twin-turbo, blown) could show me their tail lights. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it will. There's always something out there that's faster than you, but that's OK because competing at the track is fun, later, John H.

 

I raced my friends 02 Zo6 from a dead stop...We were neck and neck till about 85 then we shut it down...He was very suprised....I am basically stock with a Silver Bullet Exhuast...He didnt lauch it and I gradually accelerated then stomped on it...Not too bad for truck...You should have seen the guys face that witnessed our litlle race....Classic...

Don't get me wrong, I like Corvettes but I think you have to be willing to spend some money on a Z06 to keep up with several of the Lightnings on this Board.

My roommate has a '98 C5 which he bought new in '98. He took it to the track stock (auto tranny) and he could not get into the 13s. It would go 14.0-14.2 all day @ 100-101 mph. Well, he put on a bigger MAF, twin K&Ns, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and a hypertech programmer, and now his best is 13.4x @ 103.

So, not all C5s are fast. He didn't want to believe me when I told him my first two passes at the track were 13.3x @ 102.

 

I've played with 4 C5's... one of those was a Z06... I sure surprised the guy and once he recovered my revlimter in the right seat kicked in and it was over (my wife ).

Beat two of the others and lost to the third due to high speed (not our sweet spot)...

One of those wins was stop light to stop light... the poor guy couldn't believe a truck beat him...

 

I've beaten every C5 I've raced but if you get a guy with an 02 Z06 that can drive lookout. My buddy has a 6spd and with 1000 miles on it bone stock ran a 11.91 @119 and back it up with an 11.98, 11.97,12.02 all at 118 or 119mph. That's F*CKING FAST.
