Exclamation Street Scene grille in...BEWARE

I installed the grille Sunday (pics coming soon) and it does look great. HOWEVER, their instructions were focked up pretty badly. I have talked and written them and they "should' be correcting the problems.

You didn't really try to use the clips they sent, did you?

Clips = bad news

The clips they send are useless, zip ties and dremel are the only way to go...

The clips are spring loaded! It took alot of playin' around to figure them out. They are to be used when the factory grills are removed. I hear what you are sayin' about the instructions.Mine looked like they went through the wash!

Interesting....

My Street Scene grill would not fit in the upper without the OEM grill behind it (it expects the "frame")

How did you get yours installed straight to the bumper cover?

Even my lower Street Scene grill didn't fit (even with the OEM removed, the spring clips didn't hold it secure)

The stamping was far from perfect.I used a bender to tailor the fit.It looks awesome once installed though.I would not want to do it again ,that's for sure!

I have the "new" street scene grills for the 01 also....I don't like the fit. I pulled the nose off my truck only to find the fit was...well you know. After talking to someone in their shop, I was informed that the grill goes over the factory grill in the 01's....WTF. Now after trial fitting the new grill, my factory grill is scratch....so this weekend I'll pull the nose and try again. Any helpful info, the top corners don't seem to fill the opening to my taste.

Production year aside, I found the best fit included the modification(flattening) the outer edges of the new SS grill and eliminating the original Ford grill. This allows the new grill to fill the entire shell space with no gaps.

But, that's just what I think...

Installing SS grills?

I’m installing mine this weekend. If anyone has better instructions or more hints please post or email, I also want to remove my stock grill (01).

Wolff, can you shoot me a copy of what you suggested to SS, thanks…

The best advice I can give is, go get a big handfull of short, clear wire-ties (aka zip-ties) and don't read the instructions....

My 2001 install...

My version of instructions:

The lower valence is simple.

remove the stock grill insert (held in by 9 screws.
Install the SS grill and zip tie it to the screw holes.
All done.

OEM grill is a bit harder:
remove belt diagram cover.
remove turn signals (one screw each side).
Remove (10?) screws holding on grill front.
Reach between grill and bumper and detach skirt from grill cover
reach down (in front of radiator) and pinch grill cover retainers (10 inches from center, easy to see if you look between grill and bumper)
remove grill cover.
remove grill from cover.
NOW: I cut out the factory grill because I didn't like it behind the SS grill (cut every crossbar and support and leave an oval frame)
liberally drill holes around edge of stock grill.
LOOSELY attach SS grill through holes with zip ties.
position grill as you like and cinch down zip ties.
use a screwdriver on the parts of the grill you don't like the bend of (insert into folded grill area and flex)

That's what I did for my 2001. Hope it helps...

QB,

Rich (TampaSVT) is right. That's how I installed my last one and it finally worked good. The only difference was that I used a 00 grill perimeter in mine to attach it to. It will work either way.

Do not use the 2001 grill perimeter like I did the first time and ruin it. The outer perimeter of an 01 is too thick and you will have to force it into it causing it to warp. In the sun it will look like hell.

I used small zip ties and a 1/8th inch drill bit. Install all the zip-ties loosely at first and then tighten them up slowly watching how each effects the fit. You might also need to spread the outer edges of the SS out a little.

Be careful, soft aluminum. The second pic shows the discarded part. Sorry, I didn't make a pic of the perimeter after cutting it away.

I installed the perimeter into the grill shell and then installed the SS grill.
