Switched to Mobil 5w30 SuperSyn w/ K&N filter
I just changed my oil to the new mobil supersyn w k&N gold oil filter. They do not have 5w20, so I had to use 5w30. Any disadvantages of running 5w30 instead? The engine seems to be running a little smoother and quieter (of course it could be psycological).

I have 22.5k miles on my 99 now and plan to swicth to Mobil on my next oil change. As far as I know, it has always had normal oil in it.

There are no disadvantages to using a synthetic oil, only advantages. I started with Mobil 1 in the 70s and every vehicle I've owned has benefited from it.

5w-20 not only gives a tidge more fuel economy (you'll never notice it), but it is thinner so more performance should be afforded as well.
I recommend Royal Purple 5w-20. It's new so most will not have that viscosity in stock. They can order it, though. Go to www.royalpurple.com
I know all synthetic oil manufacturers claim their's is the best, but I honestly believe you can't do better than RP. It's price is about 5 bucks a quart, too. Hardly anymore than a bottle of Mobil 1.

I would stay with the Motorcraft 820s filter. It has a silicone anti-siphon valve it it.
have heard of many having the "can of marbles' sound develop with aftermarket filters.Myself included.Swithed back and it went away.
I also Pre-fill the filter with fresh oil before install. It'll take almost 3/4 qt.Then before you start the truck, hold the accelerator to the floor and crank it over for 30-45 sec.then let off the accelerator and start as usual.
hope this helps!
