alarm & courtesy lights

hey guys/gals...

i dont own a L, but i know all of you do, and i know that a lot of you have alarms. any of you guys have an aftermarket alarm installed (DEI, VIPER, CLIFFORD, etc) so that when you unlock your doors, the courtesy lights come on (dome light, running board lights, 3rd brake light)?? i asked the installer, and he said the cant duplicate the factory module that does it, or something like that. i loved it with the keyless entry from the factory.

LOL that is B.S. Buy an alarm with enough channels and you can do about anything

there is a wire for dome light supervision in the harness. I would connect that wire to the domelight and to the bed light.

unless there is something new that would stop this from working, you shouldn't have any issues. I would probably look in to a different shop if they told you that it wouldn't work. I am VERY picky about shops that install alarms. (I installed them for a number of years when I was in college)

The domelight supervision does nothing more than trick the module into thinking the door is opened by supplying a 12v source. It can be done EASILY, but what prolly happened is the 550esp and most of the DEI/CLifford ect alarms do not have the onboard relay to accomplish the domelight supervision.

All you need is a relay assuming the alarm has the domelight supervision output. Very VERY simply to accomplish. If your alarm doesn't have this feature its easy enough to simulate with a relay and a timer relay. nearly EVERY alarm has a negative out when armed..if you need more info on how to do this i'll take the time to type it for ya.

Brandon

PS where are you getting this installed?

Harness 1 pin 4 (black-white wire) is for dome light supervision, just run it to a relay. It DOES come standard on the Viper 550

Qball again jumps to the answers quicker than me =) Except domelight supervision is NOT a standard feature, its more of 'optional' 99% of the dealers do not include the relay needed for this option. So for it to be standard the relay would need to be onboard like it is on the viper 600esp. SO =)

Ok i'll go a tad more in depth for ya

Relay Terminals
87 - 12v fused source
87A- Unusued
30 - Door trigger input on alarm (it will be violet on the alarm)

85 - 12v fused source
86 - black/white wire on alarm

This will operate the interior lights and bed lights (everythign that turns on when door is open.

Brandon

PS these wires and polarity are only for this truck, some cars will necessitate a negative vs positive input, and the use of the green door trigger wire vs violet...

since we are on the subject of alarms...

my alarm guy cant figure this out.. i arm my alarm, and the doors lock & the interior light goes out...

if i disarm it within a hour or so, the dome light will come back on.
if i disarm it after several hours, the dome light won't come back on, until i open the door..

how do i get the light to come on every time?

ZZZ....ZZZZZZZ......ZZZZZ.....ZZZ

Your dome light won't come on because on the newer FORDS the GEM module is "sleeping"...........there is a procedure for "waking" up the GEM module, thus allowing the dome/cap light to come on.

I'm surprised the installer couldn't figure that one out.
