slight hesitation at 4500 in 2nd on 01

Just curious if anyone has eperienced this on 01 lightnings it seems to hesitate for a split second at high rpms in second gear at wide open throttle. Don't know but maybe it is the converter locking up. Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated. By the way I installed a breather cap and made no change to my current program and seems to work fine, don't want to screw up anything.

your right

99% sure it's your convertor, 1% sure it's broken. I think beefcake documented this with his camera. Shot the dash while blowiong down the highway, actually could see the tach stop for a quick second.

My '01 does that at about 3500 rpm. I thought it was the engine pulling timing or dumping boost. But I now have a boost bypass and it still does it. Its almost like it just lays over for a second, then it gets going again.

it's the torque converter, as he said. it's 100% normal.

I was just telling soap about the same thing I had happen to me today, usually it does it when you mash the gas in second but not enough to go to first and you get alittle let up around 50mph to me it felt like the tranny slips alittle not knowing what gear to go in but iits way to early for 3rd who the heck knows??

Unhappy

Same here about 3500 also.. I also found when cold the tranny stays in 1st gear until 3000 or so and shift hard at light throttle, so I had been running in 2nd/D around town for first few miles. Sounds like computer is incorrectly triggering the engine backoff like it's expecting a shift to occur.

Thumbs up

Yes it's the converter locking up.

Both my L and the CrownVic do the exact same thing. It becomes really noticable when you get a loud exhaust too.

Not to worry, drive on.

Chuck if you put the breather cap you need to have your chip reburnt because if not it will cause your truck to run to lean. Not that it has anything to do with your hesitation, but I thought you should know.

About the "when cold tranny stays..." Your transmission behaves very differently until the fluid temp gets to 125degrees at the solenoid, by design. It's perfectly normal.

I have the same symptom with the JDM Stage I & II plus cat-back. Sputters for about 2 seconds at about 4500 rpm. JDM suggested replacing the fuel filter. Which I haven't done yet. May'be I don't have to? Truck only has 9k on it.
