wow, if that dodge truck with the viper engine has the v8 with 10 cylinders, lightnings will be toast. they would have better gas mileage and better performance! i say shut down this website, dodge is clearly the mayor!

my sarcasam even hurts me to read sometimes.

I ran across the same idiot's here in NY at "McCarville Ford, SVT Specialist" I bought a Cobra from them a few years ago.
The new SVT SPECIALIST, is this wise *** teenager that has absolutly no clue about either the Cobra or the Lightning. Where Ford finds these people is beyond me ???
I refused to buy the Lightning from them for that reason. I ended up getting Saville Ford (a Ford Truck dealer) to have one shipped from a dealer in CT.

Before I bought the Lightinig, i was in the dealership and was asking one of the salesmen a few questions about it. He gave me the normal info like 380hp, 450tq, etc..then he says:"yea this is a fast truck man, my friend just got one. he ran 11s with just a chip and some slicks"

this one just happened today:

me and a buddy were at the local mall i guess you would call and we saw two of those new H2 hummers parked next to eachother. they were some internet guys because one of them had some .com address on the back of it. anyway, the two of us are in between the two hummers looking at the interior and the doors unlock. my friend didnt notice it because he was looking at the other but i said: the guy that owns this is coming, lets go talk to him about the truck. we chop it for a few minutes and finally get to the engine
friend: is that a diesel
owner: no its gas
friend: really
owner: yeah its a V8 6 liter 318
friend: oh, ok...

we both turned and walked away and i looked at my friend and said: did he say 318???

last time i checked, which was about 5 seconds ago, a 6.0liter engine was 364cid....

after that whole thing another brand new H2 pulled up. 3 in one day, pretty weired...

Here is what I do to the carsalesmen.
Always ask to take a testdrive, I have never been told no, even when I drove a Viper,Vette or the Lightning. You know the salesclown will go with you.Thats what you want!! That way
you can find out what he doesn't know about what he is selling!!

I always tell them I intend to drive the car like it was made to be driven, and they tell me no problem that they are used to a high perf. car.

Thats when I hammer the pedal, thrash the gearbox, and drive
sideways for about 3 gears. When done, repeat again!!

I act as casual as I can never showing any signs of having fun,
then say " I am not impressed."

If you like the car or truck this gives you some basis to bargin.

This has worked for me every time, not to mention it shuts up the salesman everytime!!

Good luck shopping!!

About a month ago my fiance and I were at my dealership in Virginia Beach, VA. I was getting the L inspected and my woman wanted to look at Mustangs. She test drove a sweet red GT. Before she went for the drive some little punk kid "salesman" (I use that term very loosely) drove away in a V6 Mustang that was on the lot (he tried to drive it like it was a McLaren F1). Well, she pulled back in and was looking over the car so I was walking across the lot to the car. Then, this kid pulls in and parks right in front of me. He jumps out of the car like he just ran the 1/4 in 6.57. He smiles at me and looks over at my woman and says, "Lookin' for a Mustang huh?" I replied "Yea, she wants a vert." To which he replied "Yea, I got a '99 cobra... bought it with 12 miles and 400 HP." Then he kinda whispered to me "but that is so under rated". I couldn't believe it! You mean the Cobra you bought has "more" HP than the new Cobras??? What are you smoking??? Yea, the '03 Cobra has 400 HP and is under rated, but your Cobra (if you have one) doesn't come close. Then I proceded to tell him that if he really wanted to drive fast, "my truck is right over there (pointed and grinned) and she'll light you up". At this point all the kid could do was hang his head and walk away.

I actually had an ignorant salesman crawling around under the back of an 83 EXP (basically a sporty escort) trying to show me the traction bars. I knew it was FWD, but had that joker pointing out all kinds of things, trying to find them...He was on the hot asphalt for a good five minutes. My wife said I went a little overboard on that one...

The other day I was at a dealership looking at some new lightnings. A salesman came up and we were talking about them and I asked if they had any '03 cobras in. He said they didn't have any in at the time, but then proceded to tell me that the new cobra and the L had the same engine.

He was referring to the horsepower. The 6 liter V8 in the H2 has 316 hp, guy probably just confused 316 and 318.

I pulled off at a local dealership out in the largo area here in florida once. They has a black 99 L sitting out front that was used. They only wanted like 23 so I figured I could get it for less. There was a bunch of swirl marks in the paint and the underside of the front piece was scrathed to hell. It had my bed cover and the interior was actually perfect looking. The salesman walked on over...
salesman: "so you wanna go fast eh?"
me: "something like that, have the keys?"
salesmen: "sure..lets go get them."
me: "has it had the intercooler replaced yet?"
salesmen (looking confused): "im sure it has... shes's mint my man!"
I told him to hold on a sec then looked under the uder side. The bottom looked like it had been in an ocean for a week or something. The differential cover had actual chunks missing out of the metal.
me: "is this car from up north or something? its a bit rusty underneath."
salesmen: "oh dont worry bout it, they are all like that, doesnt bother the performance or anything."
me: "see that black truck over there (pointing at mine),its a 99 also, why dont you lay under there for a sec and have a look."
salesmen: " I would get dirty, c'mon inside,you thirsty?"
me: "eat me dip****.."
salesman:"......uhh k...uhhh well good luck finding what you want."
me: no reply..just a "screw you glare" as I lit my cigarette and walked past him to my truck."

sorry so long

salesmen aren't the only ones.............

I met a 00 owner one time, asked him what mods he had, he said "heads and cams - all high end work"........I told him my mods, he proceeded to tell me that his stock t/b and the 80mm MAF was better than my Oval T/b and 90mm.........that the open air filter loses power, and that he runs "low 10's, 9's on 'nos'"...........well he may have had some engine work done, but all I saw was a completely stock 2000 engine, that looked like nobody had ever opened the hood. I just told him hes got the fastest Gen2 Lightning in the world.

Another 99 or 00 (cant remember) owner at the track talked to me about his truck, and how he is going to be 'the fastest lightning in houston' and said his next mod was going to be 3:55 gears. I told him he already has them.........he said "no, the 99's have 2:08 gears (or something like that)

Before these encounters, I always wanted to talk w/other lightning owners........not so sure now......

OK a little "ying" and some "yang".

The only bad SVT experience I've got is when I was pricing a 4.10 gearset for my 97 CrownVic last spring.

I called the "SVT" dealer directly accross the street from my house and after getting a run-a-round the "SVT" manager say's it'll cost $975 just for the gears and then another "$750 or so" to install them. AND "I'm not sure my tech can do that job? It's pretty involved". :o

Now keep in mind "SVT" dealers are supposed to have "qualified SVT" techs working there.
We'll needless to say he/they sold me neither the gearset nor the NEW 2002 Lightning parked in the garage.

Now for the "yang". One of my closeest friends is a Ford salesman at a small town in Ill. And he is definately a gearhead who's on top of all the details.
Just keep in mind that not all salesmen are dumb. Let them make the first move/stumble before you rip em.

WOT

BTW: Notice I said "salesMEN". There is a reason. If they aren't a "he" then I consider that two strikes right off the bat when looking at an "SVT" product.
