02 engine noise in the morning
HI
I'm new to this site and also new to my 02 lightning.
I have a question?.?????.....
Just had the oil changed for the first time at the 3000 mile.
brought it home and the next morning the engine now has a noise in it that was not there before the change. Sounds like the lifters or a rod bearning. But it goes away after warming up to normal temp. Also after it sits for a couple of hours it does it again untill it warms up then all is norm. Any Ideas?:

There are tons of issues with the first oil change and noise....
Did you put Synthetic in? If so get it out, and wait till 10,000 miles. Did you use the Junk 5w20? If so get it out, 5W30 should be a minimum. These motors do make noise some, as they are roller motors.
What weight & type oil did you use? and how much?

the oil came from the ford dealer where I bought the truck and they told me they use only ford oil 5w20 with a ford oil filter. they did the change what was in it before the oil change? can I stop the noise with another oil change with 5w30 or 10w30. thanks for helping me out they told me they put 6 qts. in

Is the noise comparable to "marbles rattling around in tin can" noise? Or, the motor sounds somewhat like a diesel engine?
If so, I had it for years in my '99 Lightning. This is at 23,000 miles and an Ford oil/filter change about every 3,000 miles or so. The noise does not seem to change at each cold start, and goes away pretty quickly with warm-up.
From previous comments I have read on the Board, the noise is due to the pistons, if I remember correctly.

If its piston slap the truck is going back!!!!!!!!
I just traded in a 2001 gmc pickup that sounded liked a pile of crap because of piston slap/ and gm told me to get use to it. so i bought a ford and i certainly won't put up with that junk sound.
So I think it will go back to ford for them to fix
I was just hoping for a simple solution like maybe a diff. oil like 5w30 or 10w30 or a better filter
cant believe after an oil change it would make a noise that it didnt make before it dont make sence
thank all of you for your input
bob mr unhappy with his lightning true blue

MY 02 did it too. I've gone to 5w-30 mobil one and it's about 50% gone/quieter. (currently at 4950 miles)
Gonna try 10w-30 next weekend and will post.
BTW: Aren't these pistons forged?
If so? In years past on the old hi-po stuff we used to have a little piston slap until the forged pistons got fully expanded (warmup). Simply normal physics of a forged piston vs a cast.
I've not had this out in the cold yet. Do you guys notice it more with a cold motor (30F) than at warmer weather condidions?
