How bad are the OEM Speakers?

I love my new L, but the sound from the factory speakers is less than impressive. So, how bad are the factory speakers, those of you who have replaced them... are they thin little paper peices of junk or pretty decent? I was looking at the Crutchfield site and they have some nice looking Blaupunkt speakers on sale for $59.99 a pair... if they are correct I need 6x8 size? I was thinking of getting a couple pairs of those for now. And how hard are the factory speakers to replace... it looks like I would have to pop the whole door panel off and getting at the back ones looks hard. Any advice?

They are trash! paper cones, not even sure if they have a wizzer cone, they have a cover over them for some reason, maybe to keep you from seeing how crappy they really are.

Talking do it !

The stock speakers aren't very good. I replaced all 4 with a set of Polk 6x8", and added a sub behind the driver's seat. BIG difference. Even before adding the sub, the speakers made a nice difference in sound. They also give more 'usable volume' because they can handle more ! My stock speaker started to sound like crap at about 75% volume...

I went with Crutchfield as well, and their customer service is quite impressive, and everything comes with detailed instructions.

I replaced it all. Went with a set of Crystal components in the doors w/ tweeters in the door panel. Removed the back speakers, made a custom box for 2 10" Pioneer IMPP's. I personally like how all my stuff sounds, and its definitely 121342134512351235235x's better than stock. I also replaced the stock headunit with a Pioneer P6400. Great piece.

I agree the stock speakers are pretty bad, i replaced mine with Pioneer 6x8 plates, come with a 5 1/4 and a 1inch tweeter, and they are hooked up to a phoenix gold xs2300, sound really good.

Does the stock stereo have enough power for the new speakers? Or are all of you going for a completely new system as well?

I agree that the stock speakers are pretty bad but they have worked for me so far. I installed bass blockers on all 4 and installed two 10" subs and I am happy, for now. When I get the money, or stop spending it on go fast parts , I will upgrade the stock speakers, but dont be so quick to throw them away....

My stockers work really well for me....that is after I changed to an Alpine headunit. They are clear enough along with my thunderforms. Of course I live in Northeast Texas with all the other rednecks, so any sound is better then nothing at all.
