tire mounting/balancing

Just got back from getting my F1's mounted and balanced. They where initially going to charge me $15/tire to mount. But then they said it woudl be $18/tire since my rims were 18's. Then when they were done they told me that the next time I came in they would charge me an extra $2/tire because 'they had difficulty getting the new tires on the rim'. When all was said and done it cost $57 for 2 tires. Does this sound right to anyone, or should I start looking for a new shop to get my tires mounted and balanced?

It sounds like they don't want your business.................... I'd shop around--talk to other high-performance vehicle owners in your area--at the drag strip or at an autocross.

Thats pretty stupid. I had a goodyear place tell me the same thing around here, that it "was hard" so they charge more, he also told me tires were 500 each so obviously he didnt wanna sell anything.

I didn't even buy my F1's from the shop that installed and he only charged me $8 per tire to mount and balance. Find a new shop.

Spankdog: That's funny, because I just had a tire patched and a rotation at the Goodyear place here in Warner Robins, and they told me that the F1s were $500 each!!! I said you have GOT to be mistaken, and he said that is the price in his computer.

Do all Goodyear shops have the cost at $500??? WTF?

$500! WTF! Tirerack has them for $180, that makes no sense. Thats where I bought mine, then took them to the shop to be installed. Guess I will look around for another place next time. Maybe I should just mount them myself and just take them somewhere to be balanced since it is such a pain for some shops to mount them.

Our local Goodyear dealer didn't charge me a thing, but They were brand new and I bough them thier. Oh yea, don't worry, I didn't pay the $500, heck, I got a NICE discount for some reason. Did they put the weights on the inside, outside, or both?

All the shops around me charge $20/tire for "low profile" tires...rim size dosn't matter, but if the tire profile is <50 then you get the surcharge.

the weights are on the outside, I woul rather have had them on the inside but oh well ...

I still don't understand how they had problems getting the tires on the rims, I went to a tire shop and that is all they do there, if they can't manage that, then it seems like they should try providing other services ....

My stock tires had outside weights...when I went chrome, they did insides...when I went brembo, I had to go back to outsides because the weights would hit the brakes.

Well my stupid self paid 100.00 to have my F-1s mounted and balanced on my rims that came back from being chromed. I think Discount Tire scrwed me. The only place open and had the right machine to mount them. And thay say thay have a garrantee of lower prices. I'm in the country, go fiqure!
