Truck keeps gettting stronger...

Almost a new best, I should have gotten into the 12s today. I know many of you won't beleive my times, but I'll post it anyhow.

60'------2.216
330'----5.712
594'----8.060
1/8------8.580@86.66
1/4------13.170@106.12

99 Lightning, 45,000 miles. due for an oil change.

Mods

JDM chip, burned 6/01
90mm mass air
no muffler

stage 1 weight reduction:
no tailgate
no spare
no hitch

stage 1 aerodynamics:
folded mirrors
no antenna

The air was very good up here today.

BTW my friend ran his '03 Cobra to a 12.49@109, missing 4th, and got his mph to 115. Only mods on it are Dr. Gas x-pipe, chip and bassani exhaust. 2.0-2.1 60's all day for him. We ran into the owner of the Viper he raced in town a week or so ago. The guy sold it and is looking for a Cobra!

Hey next weekend I will let you try my slicks and TB should be able to get a 12 then. I would like to thank Bob Tompkins for the slicks they worked great today but I need to screw the tires to the rims they moved about an inch each run. Ran a new best but still not happy with the truck it should be a 1/2 sec faster in the 1/4 mile. Ran a 12.51@108mph 1.84 60ft it was not the best had some 1.7X 60ft times and 8.027@88.25 1/8 mile that pass. That was with my race setting on the Delta chip thought it might be the programming why it was not as strong on the top so I had a JDM chip set up for race and it was about 4mph slower in the 1/4. I am still running the stock converter and tranny but the tranny has new clutches in it. Ran 104 oct today so I think I will try some new plugs and see if that helps. If JL or PSP has some denso IT24s I will buy some that is what I have now. Any help on why it might not be up to speed would gratefull.

Sounds like you got your truck running great. Wanted to get mine up to Polar but I can't seem to get it out of Valdez. When does Polar (I guess its now Alaska Raceway?) end its season?

With that mph you would be in the 12's no problem if you get your 60' under control.

The last day the track is open is this weekend. Be there the 31st, for the King of the Street tournament.

NCETRY is kind enough to let me borrow his slicks for a pass or two, too bad Mother Nature was a (b)itch!

Fun stuff, a lot of late model cars are showing up. Still not many Corvettes being ragged out though. I remember a few years ago me and 5 others had the track to ourselves. No joke.

What program you running Tundra. I've got the same mods on my 99l and run 13.5's at 102 here in Boise at 3000ft and 80 F. Mine is the 99 version of the J49/69. I've also got the oil breather, airaid with front panel removed, and x pipe in place of muffler. I have noticed some pinging in the hot weather when in OD and light throttle. Might be the K&N needs cleaned. Haven't done that in 10000 miles or so. Any ideas????

I think the weather conditions play a big part. I am at sealevel, and it was nice and cool the morning I raced my truck. I've got JDM's "90C5" or something chip. the 90 designotes the mass air meter that I am running that can be found under the hood of any stock 2001 or 2002 Lightning.

I forgot about the oil breather mod, but I dont think it makes that big of a difference.

I dunno, shonut, everyone has been thinking my truck is strong ever since it kept blowing the muffler off stock. Maybe its true. I'd sure like to get into the 12s without slicks, since no one says it can be done.

So close yet so far. One last chance next week. If the truck don't get me in the 12s, then I'll just have to take my friend's 2003 Cobra.

My burn is also for the 90mm I've got. One question I've always had is how elevation affects these trucks. If I use common altitude correction formulas my 13.50 @ 102 translates to a 13.01 @ 105.88. I know some local racers here in Boise run up to .8 quicker when they go to Portland. Any Ideas? Tundra, I think your program is the same as mine but mine holds gears longer. Mine won't shift to second at light throttle until about 18-20mph and will not go into OD until 48-50mph. Does yours hold shifts like this?

It sounds like we have the same program. What you gotta do is get to a lower elevation, preferably where its cool. I just need to find some traction.

I got my chip back in June of 2001 and haven't looked back. Thanks to the help of veteran board member and black Lightning owner, BrianK, I ordered it and broke it in on a modified 2001 Firehawk. I couldn't tame the 03 Cobra though. I will own one of those cars or engines one way or another.

My goal, Mother Nature providing, is to click a 12.999 without slicks. The track will be prepped this weekend, we shall see. I hope its cool. Termintion Dust can be seen on the surrounding peaks. Track is closed after Labor Day.

Thanks for the info Tundra. Anyone else have a clue or actually seen a change in how L's run at different elevations. I know they are affected by temperature big time, but how about elevation? I've heard different opinions on blown motors.
