Muscle Car Kills

Hey I just thought it would be cool to hear some kills or just races with old muscle cars. Like Mustangs and Hemi's, most kills i read about are new cars which is Awesome, but i think old muscle would be cooler and funner to race. BTW i dont own a L yet but plan on it soon, cant wait!

I have a good friend who has a s/c'd Stang. He can reel off musclecar performance and HP numbers all day. He is amazed at the performance of our Ls. Apparently, there were only a few that could best our beasts .

A LOT of the old iron had GREAT potential but were'nt all that quik in factory form as compared to a Lightning.

On a 75deg day you could change the timing and jets and most of them would run in the 13s.

Friday night before the Woodward Dream Cruise I was out looking for trouble (not hard to do) on Wooward. I pull up to a light and a Ford Truck pulled up next to me......it was as beautiful as can be, we never even looked at each other but knew what was gonna happen on green. We raced up to like 80. When we got to the next light he told me nice ride and I did the same. He went on to say he builds the 9.75" for Ford.........I told him thanks

Before we pulled away he said "Hey I'll bet you can whoop a Vette cuz I just beat one a few lights back"......I said "Not sure never raced one".

His plate said "4D FORD" for any MI guys.......cool guy.

Old Muscle

In the early 90's, I owned a '67 GTX with a 426 Hemi. The engine had been rebuilt, but was basically stock. I have strech of road that I can safely run ~1/4 tests on. The GTX would turn 100 mph (very unscientific)' I was surprized when my '01 Lightning turned about the same time. In the GTX, when you tried that, the front came up, the noise was horrendous, smoke came out the back and engine fliuds came out the side of the hood. You really had your hands full and there was a real sensation. The L just goes.

My brother has a '70 Chevelle SS with a 396 in it. I smack him around all day. My dad and him are planning a project to drop a 502 into the beast. Then we will see....

A 396 is a RAT motor. My L will destroy my stock 427 Tri-power Corvette stock for stock. With slicks, now that would be a great battle .

I have a 69 Fastback -built 351w (not insanely built), C4 -2800 stall and my Lightning makes it seem like a slug. I'm putting in a 3.70 Locker rearend and hopefully that'll narrow it down a bit (but I doubt it).

70 LS6 454

My brother has a 70 LS6 454(pop top cowl) chevell SS , He has the the motor pretty much STOCK(LOL) with some minor elctronics(MSD timing control the old vacuum advance don't cut it) and the block, crank ect were blueprint and balanced and the usuall carb cam you know the deal with old cars.
I have yet to race him he never really drives it it is more a show but it does go. I think back in the day on bias ply tires these bad boys were in the low 13's. I know he's got more than the stock 455 hp closer to 600 I'd say so I think I will get spanked by him if he gets a good launch and those BFG MT streets do hook we will see some day if i can get him to go to E-town.
I dont want to win he is a mechanic by trade so if I win I have to do all the mods myself no help.....lol
I will say this there is nothing like a big block that screams to 7700rpm it is f#%#% cool but no AC or Power steering aint for me

Heheh, yup. My bro has no AC, but does have power steering, but nothing like the power steering in my L!

P.S. Also got a Olds 442 with a BB 455 in it. But I don't think that stands a chance... never have actually run it.

Thumbs up Old Muscle is cool !!!

Back in the early 70's I owned a '70 Buick Grand Sport with the 455 Stage 1 engine. It had the Turbo 400 auto trans. and would bark the tires under full throtle for about 25 or 30 feet during the 1-2 shift. It ran mid 13's bone stock on G-60-15 Goodyear Polyglas Gt's (traction challenged) @ Atco Dragway and never lost a race in C/S Automatic. All this car needed to run 12's was a set of slicks and headers, but the Arab oil embargo came along in '75 and I sold it (like a dummy) because gas prices doubled in a matter of months. That's OK because I bought my 2000 L a couple of years ago, have modded it quite a bit and am loving everything about it, including laying mucho rubber on the 1-2 shift, what a blast, John H.
