I recently purchased a Silver 2001 Lightning what a cherry only 5800 miles. After reading this board something seems odd. My '01 has the standard F-150 third brake light, and has factory installed keypad entry on the drivers door. From what I have read the '01 should have the LED brake light, and the keypad entry isn't even an option. Doe's this seem odd?

Howie, the previous owner probably added the keypad, it's a plug in deal on the 00/01s. As for the brake light, some 01s DID get the non LED version due to lack of parts at the plant. If the truck is still under warrenty, you could try to get the dealer to replace it as a misbuilt unit, which technically it is.

 

I noticed that Needforspeed's '01 had a regular 3rd brake light last year. I guess they forgot.
The keypad is weird. Are you sure that it came from the facory like like? I kind of understand Ford leaving out a 3rd brake light, but adding a keypad for no reason?

When I purchased my 02 from Freedom Ford in Edmonton Alberta, Canada they replaced 2 01 lightnings brake lights. If you have the wrong light your dealer should replace it for free I was told there was a service bulliton on it.
