2003 changes

Has there been any more word on the changes to the 2003 L's? I know there is much performance wise except they did suspension work to increase max load.

I wonder what stuff they are doing to the interior? They said something about interior upgrades. The inside of the Harley trucks are awesome. I wonder what we can expect them to do with the L's.

and people who pre-ordered 2003 already. Have they given you a better idea on the price except $99k

They are getting slower each year?

Which year is the fastest?

I was searching reading on the 99's and 00's and people were saying 01's are faster than 99's. What about the 02'?

Setting the standard in acceleration, handling and attitude, the 2003 SVT F-150 Lightning hammers into its eighth year of production as the world's fastest factory-produced pickup. WHy would it be slower?

It'll still beat a stock 99-00 due to 20 more hp, 10 more ftlbs, and 3:73 gears.

Cool

I don't know about the 03 being slower. I have been told that, the exhaust ports are different on the 02 than the 01's. Haven't the Stock 02's been running faster than the Stock 01's at the track?

Sad thing is, all the 99,00,01,02, 03 L's are basically the same. I guess we'll have to wait until 05 for a more powerful motor.

Yes, I'm interested in what they will be doing for power with the new L's. I just think the new design of the F-150 will be ugly!!!

If the new F-150s are ugly, then I'll get one of the new cobras. I've seen drawings of them. I'll have to check out the new body design before I buy one though. I like the retro look. Otherwise, Use L here I come!

From what I've seen and even heard from the Ford SVT guys at FFW events( they hate the 05 body style.) I'm not sure I'll be getting a 05 truck. Thought I would trade up a couple of years. That's why I'm getting an 03 and selling my 01.

Changes are as follows.

Tweaks to the spring rates, working in conjunction with Bilstein shocks, raise the SVT Lightning's payload rating by 600 lbs. to a total of 1400 lbs.

Also new for 2003 are redesigned 5-spoke cast-aluminum 18 x 9.5-inch wheels.

The SVT Lightning's interior moves upscale with interior door handles finished in brushed aluminum, a steering wheel with perforated leather and unique air bag cover, and thicker interior carpeting for improved feel and wear resistance.

A final addition is a standard 6-disc in-dash AM/FM/CD stereo with improved equalization.

The SVT Lightning's brakes are 12-inch brake rotors up front and 13-inch rotors in the rear

The steering gear is revalved for 2003 and has better on-center feel and reduced lash.

The 2003 SVT F-150 benefits from improved chassis tuning for outstanding handling. Bilstein gas-charged shocks are the damper of choice at all four corners for their excellent control and ride characteristics. Unique chassis tuning also lowers the Lightning 2 inches in the rear and 1.5 inches in the front to improve the handling and give a more aggressive appearance.

I went over to my Ford dealership and they have had a 2000 L on there for a long time! Used with like 35K miles on it. I looked at it a long time ago and the bed was scratched up like nuts! Almost no paint on it scratched up. I went there today and as I was walking up I was like, "What are all those white lines"

I guess someone took it for a testdrive and bashed it into something. The front airdam is all scraped up and cracked! I was trying to keep from laughing.

I also checked the bed and they had put a drop in bedliner to cover up the scratches. I'm like, "how much would it cost to have the front dam replaced and the bed repainted?"

He's like, "I'll have to check on the from dam but why would you want the bed repainted? It has a bedliner?"

"Yhea, I know but they put that in there to cover up the scratched up bed. I don't want a drop in liner like this."

"Well, they are wanting 28.7K right now but I can talk and see if we can get that dropped down"

"20,000?"

"I can't give you a price yet. If you want to come in and put that down as your bid."

"That is ok for now. I'll have to think about it and look on some other used lots"

As I was walking away I was like, "Can you give me that for 28.7K?" as I point to a new Red L.

"I'll have to see. Might not be that low but we can give you a real good deal on the 2002's since the 2003's are about to arrive"

I wonder how cheap I could get that truck... I'd have to turn around and replace the front airdam and have the WHOLE truck repainted black. Would be like new. The interior is pretty clean.

OK OK already, please explain what you mean by 3rd generation? was there a Lightning that I don't know about in the '80s or 60s or something??? If not then you are talking about a 2nd Generation Lightning truck. the much anticipated '05 models will be 3rd gen.

But since you put "third generation" in bold, you obviously feel that you have a point to make, so what is it? how is the '03 truck a 3rd generation? I feel like I've seen you post this before, so I'm really curious as to what you mean. I'm sure I missed a thread about this somewhere, but please fill me in.

thanks,
chris

The hood is scratches up a lot but they washed the one and there was no visible etching.

I want to go back and look at the interior. I'm not sure I want to spend that much money on a vehicle that is that beat up though unless I get one hell of a deal on it. I probably won't even buy it for 20,000. No... I won't. The outside is in too poor of a condtion now to pay 20k for it.
