Unhappy axel seals...power steering...

Well, good thing I made an appointment on Friday for some wheel work, on routine insepction found out I had some leaks.

I've now blown my second rear seal, the right side is leaking. Did the left about 3 weeks ago...I guess I should have gotten them both changed at the same time, lol.

I am leaking power steering fluid. The large iron piece at the base of the steering rod in the front of the truck is covered with it on the outside. I think it was only seeping originally, but now I am actually forming small puddles. I've lost about 3/4" of power steering fluid of the resevoir, so the truck is now parked until Friday when it heads over to the machanic.

Anyone have any power steering problems before that I can point him to or is this a first?

the line coming from the pump goes RIGHT by the pulley area, and if youhave changed pulleys you prolly hit this which loosens the nut retaining the hose. Which is where the leak started from =) (don't ask how i know this)

I havn't changed pullies, but I'll have him look at the hose.

I've had a buncha suspension work done up there, maybe they knocked it lose.

It could be worse. I'd rather drive the streets of NJ than NYC.

Dan - Hope you get your leaks fixed soon.

I had the same powersteering problem when my truck was 3 weeks old. That large hunk of metal is the power steering gear box and mine had to be repplaced........the shaft seal was leaking and I found out when going around a corner and lost my power steering, hehe. Done in half a day and no problems since.

Well, it looks like it may just have been a hose seeping. We're changing it out and then I'll watch it, see if anything else leaks.

The hose was not easily available in stock, there was only 1 within an hours drive, lol. Would have had to been a speical order...

My power steering hose was leaking also. Took it to the dealer and they replaced it. Took them two days because they didn't have it in stock. The new one started leaking a week after they installed it. Still haven't taken it back Hope you have better luck with yours...
