Gen. 3 L 500hp in 05!

According to Autoweek 9/30/02 p.20 "what's next: Refreshed F150 in '04 with mega 500hp Lightning in '05"! Start saving your pennies1 My bet it will be 40k range? Also FYI Dodge Ram SRT-10 due 04, no hp numbrs given. Chevy SSR Pu 'vert early '03 as '04 model 5.3L V-8 285hp, 325ft. lbs tor. $40k. Bld 10k per year. Chevy SS 345hp V-8 from Escalade. Lots of fun stuff coming. IF 500HP L MUST BE GT40 5.4?

yeah but gator

if our trucks came with 500 hp, just think how much we could have saved in mods. With the gen 3's, 500 hp will be looked down upon. You aren't in the game with less than 7

Already 500 hp L around here?

Agree there seems to be a fair number---BUT NOT STOCK WITH INTACT FACTORY WARRANTY-unless you are very lucky! What would a few well chosen mods add to that 500stock hp? If, in fact, this comes in form of Gt40 500hp 5.4, might it not already include built bottom-end components some are now doing? My guess would be yes if it produces 500 crank hp stock. Plus, would need a substantially improved tranny to accommodate both the power and a warranty. Costs much less to add these enhanced components at factory than it would for most of us to buy aftermarket and install. Again would come with warranty, if done at factory. With lead times required, Ford would have to be in development now on new L to counter SRT 10, if it is released in advertised form. Same autoweek issue reviews new Ram 2500 with new 5.7 hemi-V8 making 345 hp 375 tqe. UNBLOWN! Not difficult to make extra 100hp+ with a blower. Ford may be glad to see this because they can add above enhancements, plus new type blower for maybe 3-4k or less their cost, but increase profitibility by additional 5-8k! Autoweek seems to have a much better track record in forecasting future cars & developments.
Sorry for long post. PS opinions are like---you know,we all have them.

Saleen

Indeed, appearance may well be another story! I've got my fingers, legs, and eyes crossed that appearance is desireable. Having a hard time getting around in that condition.

Yeah I'm personally not a fan of the new body style..but some people may like it.

I guess you can't please all the people all of the time.

I wasn't impressed at first. Now that I see them more often, I'm really beginning to like the look. It'll be interesting to see what the new L will look like.

new 5-speed auto

Would make sense they will use this new tranny (hopefully with paddle shifting) on the new L.

Yes I did. A very easy mod to do. But I believe the sport has the keypad in the door itself and not the handle like the Lightning. If that is true, then you have to buy a new door Check out www.svtlightning.com for the how-to's......
**Just tried that website...it's not there, can anybody help**

A paddle shifted 5 speed auto, would be enough reason to trade my 01 in. 500 horses with a warranty would be icing on the cake
