Surface rust under truck more than usual

I noticed on my barely driven 2000L that there is alot,
of surface rust compared to my other cars of the same year and
even a couple years older. I know someone was buying a used
L and the pictures look like my truck not much different, I am going
to treat the areas with por15 before it leeds into a problem
down the road.

BOXER,

I was under mine last weekend putting the Traction Control Springs on and I got to admit for a new truck with 6K on it I considered what I saw alot of surface rust to. I can only imagine what it's gonna look like after it's first NY winter, which is almost apon us. That ought to be fun with my Bald F-1's

I guess we all should have gone for the undercoating Hu, maybe it's not too late ???

Yeah, me too. My 02L hasn't been through a winter yet, but there is already more rust than I'd expect. The muffler/pipes are already rusty. My wife's 3 year old Infiniti is looks good underneath, and the exhaust looks new. WTF is up with Ford?

I was planning on driving it through the winter, spraying oil on the undercarriage from time to time. This scares me, though. I had a Subaru I drove through 2 Chicago winters and at trade-in the bottom was orange with rust. I'm having second thoughts about doing this to the L! I can't have a second car, so this might mean ... er, um, 'trade in'. UGH!

Do the regular F150s rust this badly??!! Does Ford delete rust-proofing measures to save weight/cost on these trucks?

Hey guys,
I too have had rust problems in the past with other vehicles. In the past I took my vehicles to Ziebart (not sure if it's an ohio company) and they sprayed a chemical on the rust to neautralize it and then did the undercoating. This process seems to work quite well. The whole thing runs around $250 and is guarenteed for a year or two(not bad for a vehicle with rust already on it). I was lucky because I just got the L and it was already undercoated and does not have any visible signs of rust. However, I will still get this process done before winter. Ohio really lays down the salt in the winter. Hope this helps!

Just found out from website that they are all over the place.
I need to get out of Ohio more often LOL!

Ziebart

I live in New York as well, and my truck has never seen the
snow or salt at all, I was really surprised at how much there
was for a brand new truck! I compared it to my other car 99
and there was about one quarter of the amount my truck has!
