Fast Gator: That's him! He was the greatest cavalry general ever! he led his troops from the front instead of issuing orders from a tent in the rear(as a REMF would do). For proof, he had 29 horses shot out dead from under him plus six body wounds. He killed 30 of 'the enemy' in hand-to-hand, face-to-face combat--one more than they got. He had no formal education or prior military experience but rose to the rank of Lt. General from being an enlisted man.
"Was he an enigma to the Union generals against whom he fought? General William T. Sherman, who said that Forrest must be killed "if it costs ten thousand lives and breaks the treasury," thought so."
I read that article in the NRA 'zine CornerCarver--keep those mills producing.
Thanks, Gator.

Rod,
There is a huge statue of Forrest on I-65 near Nashville. Every time I pass by I want to take a pic of my Lighting next to it and send it to you.
